Had the New York Strip, mashed taters and french onion soup washed down with Korbel Old Fashions. I was at the Steakout a few weeks prior and the brandy old fashions there really disappointed and Jackson 's were not much better. This is not a high volume joint so I think they should muddle from scratch. The steak was seasoned well but they rested it a wee bit to long and it came not so hot. This is a nice old fashioned supper club, quiet and friendly atmosphere. Three drinks, dinner and tip $100.
I have written countless reviews raving about the Jackson Grill. It is the quintessential urban supper club, family owned and family run. You are welcomed to Jimmy and Heidi's home with strong drinks and great food. All you are required to do is laugh, have fun, and dine to your heart's content. Steaks, ribs, and seafood are all fantastic, and Jimmy can surprise you with specials that dazzle with culinary magic. Service envelops you with their warmth and comraderie. I love coming home to the Jackson Grill.
Loved this place! Great service! Laid back non pretentious atmosphere with high grade steaks and awesome fish and ribs. Gotta try this place out, everything was cooked to perfection . We are definitely going back! My dad got the T bone steak and he said it was the best he's ever had! Daughter had the ribs and mom had the halibut, both tasty and cooked to perfection. Just writing this review my mouth is watering! I do not recommend the French onion soup, but they do have 3 options for soup. Salads were fresh and delicious. Dessert was the strawberry Napoleon was simple fresh and hit the spot.
This place was on my to-dine list for several years, and I FINALLY made it in with a friend a few weeks ago. We were greeted by a friendly and professionally dressed bartender, and I checked in with a very welcoming host. I had a reservation, and we only waited 10 minutes for our table. On a busy Saturday night, with a place this small, that was better than I expected. Our table was just outside the kitchen, just a few feet from the swinging doors. Our server was a very sweet woman with a fun personality. She answered our questions and made some suggestions after going over the specials for the night. I read reviews and learned from them that the Shrimp Cocktail and NY Strip steak would be the way to go. I also read that the scallops were the best in town which was echoed by our server. One of the specials was Mushroom Risotto, topped with Jumbo Scallops, and I was torn. I made up my mind that I was ordering the NY Strip, but I LOVE mushroom risotto, and this one was topped with their popular jumbo scallops! Our server game me the great idea of getting a side of mushroom risotto instead of a potato for a small upcharge and ordering one scallop. That is customer service at it 's best, a way for me to have it all in just one visit and without breaking the bank! Dinners come with soup or salad and choice of side. I ordered the French Onion Soup, which is not baked so the cheese isn 't melted but the broth was good, and the mushroom risotto $3 upcharge) topped with one scallop another $3 or $4, a fair market price for a jumbo scallop), with my NY Strip $38). First we had the Cajun BBQ Shrimp appetizer $16). I expected grilled shrimp with a cajun rub around a bowl or large cocktail glass filled with cocktail sauce and the other dipping sauces that came with it, on the side. What arrived was a plate of shrimp with no grill marks, no seasoning, and coated with a light brown sauce that was just slightly spicy and three dipping sauces on the side incase the light brown sauce they were already covered in wasn 't enough. The taste was just ok, but I was disappointed. When my steak and side of risotto arrived, I was excited. Surely this would make up for the shrimp cocktail. My first thought was, why is there a sauce a beurre blanc, I believe) on my risotto, which should already have a creamy texture with it 's own flavor? This risotto had a thick texture that reminded me or bread stuffing and the flavor was not far off. The scallop was good, not the best I 've had in Milwaukee, but good. I couldn 't eat the risotto. I left if on the side of the table to be taken away. I was willing to cut my losses on that $6-$7 side dish upcharge, but our serve noticed it and asked me about it. I explained everthing that was wrong with it and she brought me garlic mashed potatoes to replace it, and they were EXCELLENT! They were soft and almost creamy with a buttery and garlic flavor. They were perfect! When I ordered my steak, I asked her to let the chef decide what temperature it should be served. That might not have been wise. Even though the outside of the steak was thoroughly charred, the inside like it was cooked to mid-rare, which was fine with me, except that my steak was cold, as in less than room temp. I expected the inside to be a little under room temp, but not the exterior. I figured they took the steak off the grill and let it rest, but perhaps it rested too long. I asked the server to take it back and just through it on the grill for a minute to heat up the outside. She did and the kitchen took care of it. It was much better the second time. I enjoyed the portabella mushroom cap garnish and the light use of au jus. The flavors of the seasoning from the grill were great, but I was just really frustrated by this point, so I didn 't enjoy my meal as much as I probably should have, despite the efforts of our amazing server who did everything in her power to make things right, and that effort was rewarded when I left the tip. The moral of the story is that when you go to the Jackson Grill, I suggest keeping it simple. A steak and potato should leave you pleased with your meal. If you venture far from that, ask a lot of questions because they seem to love sauces and some dishes are better off without them. For the record, my friend ordered the small filet and baked potato and had no complaints with her dinner.
Very cozy restaurant with a short, but well executed menu. Delicious steaks. Great bar atmosphere and well made drinks. I believe the hours listed on Yelp may need an updating for now. Jackson Grill is only open Th- Sunday and offers a choice of three seating times.
