Drive from long beach to dinner after reservations on open table for 9pm dinner. raised, found a parking space right in front and very unexpectedly found that they were closed! not cool at this point where we were hanging. it is in order if they are not opened in the middle of the week, but do not count that they are if they really are not! how can I recommend this place when that was my experience?
The flesh was great. that's all I can say, that was good for eating. very nice work on meat. we have a lot. the paella was terrible and bone dry. clams turned around and were fed. the one clam I ate was one of the worst things I ever tasted. the garnels were not fresh. so disappointing. we had already sent the empathes back because they were undercooked (we had not melted, these were clearly frozen) so that we did not want to be rude and wanted to send paella back, but it was terrible. we were the only table next to the waiter and barkeepers two friends, so they were more interested in hanging with their friends than giving us attention. it took ten minutes to get the first bottle wein, because the girl was verrrryyyyy to clean glasses slowly while laughing with her friends. we had to tie the people down every time we needed something that was strange, because we were once again the only table in the entire restaurant and sat right in front of the bar/sergestation. I understand. often when there is a slow night the service is worse, and these children cannot help that eating was bad, so we do not give them any hard time over eating. but close the restaurant if they are not interested in giving great service to people who pay good money to eat in their facility. will not return.
We love this restaurant!! The food is always fresh and delicious, and Mark the owner/chef is THE BEST!! We were a little disappointed with the service, which was fine, but our server seemed a bit inexperienced and not the most engaging. Also, there seems to have been some construction work being done in the main dining room, so we had to sit up front near the bar, which wasn't the coziest atmosphere. We love the mix of music which is piped in, but the tv by the bar was on, causing conflicting noise. This all in NO WAY should discourage you from going to this GREAT restaurant. The food quality and quantity well makes up for any slight misgivings we had this time :
For a new-ish place it was not bad. It definitely has potential. We went on mother’s day and it was not busy or crowded so we were surprised when The appetizers came out slowly. First my husband’s, the my mother’s, then mine. By slowly, I mean, my husband finished his and there was a wait before my mother’s came out, she finished hers and we waited more before mine came out. Food was OK. My husband’s appetizer (papa rellena) was very salty. He couldnt eat more then a bite of it, i None of us could handle more then a bite (4 adults), which was a little disappointing. As a person who grew up eating home made peruvian food (my background), the food was overall decent. My entree (tallarin verde) tasted good. It’s also my favorite food so i’m a little bias in that. My mother ordered a shared Parillada to share with my sister (who skipped apps), and they’re food was decently seasoned. It came out on a portable grill which was pretty cool. But the flame in the grill also dried up the meats halfway through the meal. I guess its to be expected. Not sure why the service was so slow, especially when it was not busy, at most there was 3 other tables with guests during our stay. If the service gets it together, and the kitchen staff is careful with their salt seasoning, this place has the potential of being really good.
