The food mainly tasted like beef and had a bad smell. It seemed like it was not fresh, and the roasted rice was too greasy. I ended up getting two takeout orders. Overall, it was a waste of time and money. I warned my friend beforehand.
I was on my Facebook page when I saw Bertos Cuisine advertising and there were some of my favorite Filipino dishes, especially the Inihaw or BBQ'S. I was so eager to visit this place and tried to find it exactly. My first time to visit Bertos Cuisine, the place requires face mask and two doors were open to customers. One door to the entrance and the other to the exit. No din was allowed. It was a simple and small place, but good enough for at least 4 tables from four to 5 tables from four. All employees have Filipino background, so it is easy to speak in our Filipino language. The place is so casual and you can see the menu on the neon illuminated wall. At the front you can immediately see what the available dishes are prepared and placed on a stainless steel dish heater pans. You can ask another menu that you are also interested. I bought a 2 plate combo for the trip, as no din allowed. I tried the Caldereta, a kind of Spanish beef stew, with a cup of rice on the polystyrene plate plus another dish, a dinuguana, a Filipino pork and blood stew. The food price is fair enough for its generous portions. The food flavor is also good, it is not salty, like our dishes back to the Philippines. Because of the hot weather in the Philippines, salty food is normal to daily consumption, because it is easy to sweat it. It is not a big problem to compare here in Canada where the weather is colder. The meat is less fat unlike some Filipino restaurant where most dishes contain the animal fats. I knew that most Filipinos are not funds of spicy dishes, but for me, if possible, I would make the owner of Berto's Cuisine a small kick on it dishes like Caldereta, Dinuguan and Bicol Express to make it perfect to my taste. Well, I'm happy how they prepared the food, so I went back 2 times to taste some of their specialties. I have a photo of my last menu I ordered a few weeks ago. Try Berto's kitchen. I hope there are also at this time.
My husband called ahead to ask about the day menu so that he was able to reserve Pig BBQ Spieße on Mother's Day. He forgot to ask if they have Halo-Halo shaved ice dessert) or any prepacked Puto snacks, my usual favorites. I just found out... hours later when we were on the way. I haven't called to check since we were almost here. Fingers crossed are available! We came here and immediately noticed COVID-19 security measures. Shield at the door said only 4 people in a time. Another sign asked those with fever or coughs not to enter the premises. As expected, the dining area was closed. There was a bottle of hand sanitary for customer use at the table in front of the checkout. Clear plastic wrapped around the counter to separate employees and open foods) from customers. All counterforces wore disposable masks and gloves. Directional arrows and physical distance marks were glued to the ground. Separate entrance and exit doors were in use. The selection of hot foods was limited. Only 6 Bain Marie pans had food in them. The Pancit palabok noodle), which was cooked when my husband was called earlier, was already sold. I asked if they still make Halo-Halo yes and ordered immediately 3. Apart from Halo-Halo $8 per) and pigs BBQ spits $2.25 per), we have vegetables chop Suey big, $10.50) and some Puto Flan $5/pack. Service was fast and efficient. Everything was well packed and nothing was spilled. At home our Halo-Halo- and Puto-Flan speeds were completely satisfied. The pork BBQ, generously immersed in delicious BBQ sauce, was juicy and delicious, even after heating the next day. I wish they used slimmer pig slices. The Chiop Suey was good, although the large container is just a medium in the other Filipino restaurant from which we buy.
Lumpia came up in a record consisting of classics: Pancit, Lumpia, Sio Pao and squid Adobo. The staff was friendly and the service was very fast.
I just bought today three take-home viands from Bertos: Bistek Filipino, Kare2 and Chop Suey. Sad to say the food wasn't good and my wife and I were very disappointed because the Kare2 was all bones, the Bistek was tough it was hard to bite...and chew, the chop suey was mushy. We won't be getting food from Bertos for a long time unless they improve and elevate their food taste and quality
