California Sandwiches - Mississauga

I was the first customer of the day. Got a veal sandwich with cheese and mushrooms. Very yummy ? It's my go to. I will have to come back and try the hot table offerings. This location gets super busy around lunch.

The food is great, but the service leaves a lot to be desired! I would have given this place a five-star rating if it weren't for the way the cashier treated customers. The cashier had an attitude and was quite sarcastic. I witnessed them toss change to the customer in front of me and make fun of him when he wanted to add another item to his order. This behavior is very unprofessional and shows a lack of respect for others.

I ordered a veal sandwich, but it was tough and chewy—not tender at all. The owner was quite rude; he wouldn’t let me finish my question about whether the fries had salt. I wanted to explain that I ask because I give some to my dogs as treats, but he kept interrupting me. I won’t be returning to this location, and to top it off, the place was dirty—apparently in keeping with the industrial area it’s in.

The quality at Californias has significantly declined. I used to enjoy watching the butcher slice fresh steak right off the leg, but now you've switched to processed steak that's tough and flavorless. So, I tried ordering veal instead, only to discover that you’ve also started using precut, processed veal, despite claiming otherwise. This feels deceptive. I've been a loyal customer since the early days of Californias, SAN Francesco, and Bittondos – I know the difference. It's really disappointing to see this shift. Please prioritize quality over cost-cutting; I'm willing to pay for it.

I visited for lunch and experienced a long wait, which was understandable given the high quality of the food and the number of customers in line. The food was excellent, and I have no complaints there. The service could be a bit friendlier, but I can overlook that since they are busy serving hundreds of customers during lunch. The restaurant could benefit from some maintenance, as a focus on cleanliness would make a significant difference.
