The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is known for its fantastic South Indian restaurants, and this one exceeded our expectations. We ordered Punugulu, Onion Pesarattu, Poori with Chole, and a Dosa (I can't recall the exact name). All four dishes were delicious, especially the Pesarattu. The Chole could have been better, and we suggested that they offer Poori with Aloo Curry as well. Despite this, the food was amazing. The staff were also friendly and provided good service.
My culinary journey in Canada led me to Godavari Grandma's Kitchen restaurant in Toronto Mississauga. As soon as I saw the name board, I was charmed by Godavari Grandma's Kitchen. Once inside, I perused the menu and the first page brought back memories of my own grandmother. The restaurant was founded by Sudha Devaguptapu, the granddaughter of Kamaladevi Garu, who paid tribute to her grandmother on the first page. This personal touch elevated my love for Godavari Grandma's Kitchen. A member of the staff warmly greeted me and asked, "Anna Teluga." When I responded with "Avunu 'Yes'," we both shared a moment of joy. It seemed like he was a student working part-time at the restaurant. I was delighted to converse with him in my mother tongue. I ordered the Andhra Style Green Chilli Dosa and a Sweet Lassi. Although I requested a roasted dosa, they recommended their standard version which turned out to be delicious. The dosa was served with four tasty and flavorful chutneys that I thoroughly enjoyed, while indulging in photography and savoring the meal with the Sweet Lassi. Overall, I had a wonderful dinner at Godavari Grandma's Kitchen. I appreciate the excellent food quality. Amazing dosa! Everything was made fresh with the spice mixtures - sheer perfection. Ate dinner here earlier this week, and it was so good, came back again! Highly recommended are the poori and/or chapati vegetable korma, ghee idli, melt-in-your-mouth palak moong dal bondas, bhajis, pakoras, black-eyed peas vada, Punjabi paneer masala dosa, Palak moong dal dosa, Spicy coconut dosa, lassi, both salt and mango... The chutneys are the best I have had, especially the ginger chutney and the coconut and green chillies. Every dish was delicious, and made with genuine care. Service was excellent, and food arrived in a timely, but not rushed, manner. Grandmother would be proud!
Dropped by on Friday for dinner. Restaurant has only been open for two weeks in Mississauga. Yet it was busy. Sambhar was amazingly flavourful and dosa and vada too were great. Am certainly hooked on this place, since the competitor is too crowded and busy.
Wonderful place and food. We have been regular customers at Godavari since it opened for business. We were never disappointed till date. We had my Son's birthday celebrated last week at Godavari. My work place colleagues and my Wife's work colleagues also joined us. Most of them are not aware of South Indian Food and were allergic to nuts. We requested Godavari to be very sensitive to their preferences. We were promised by Chef & Owner Sudha that she will take care in person. We were 90 people with more than 25 kids. The food was served very hot and fresh. The way the requirements of our guests were taken care was just amazing. Our guests liked the food so much that they kept talking about it next day at office. We really felt very proud and Thank You Godavari for taking care of our needs. TO THE BIGGEST SURPRISE OF ALL, WE WERE NOT CHARGED FOR ALL THE FOOD THAT KIDS ATE AROUND $220. WE WERE TOLD ITS A GIFT FROM GODAVARI AND APPRECIATION TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS SINCE IT BEGAN OPERATION. Thank You Godavari & Sudha. All The Best. GOD BLESS.
