I adore the staff and the cuisine at this restaurant! I wish I could visit more often.
My favorite dish is the Tocilog all-day breakfast (Tocino, rice, and 2 fried eggs, $8.99), served with Achara (pickled green papaya) on a cucumber and tomato bed, and a small cup of sinigang soup. The Tocino is flavorful, well-cooked, and served in generous portions. I usually ask for a styrofoam container for my leftover Tocino as I cannot finish it all in one sitting. Another favorite of mine is the tortang talong (eggplant with ground pork, $5.99). The dish is always perfectly cooked, with consistent shape and size. My husband loves the Tinolang Manok (chicken ginger soup) for its delicious taste and tender meat. He orders it every time we visit. During New Year's Eve, we decided to try the Handaan Filipino Cuisine Party Trays. We placed our order a week in advance, and on the day of pickup, our order was ready in aluminum serving dishes. The Pancit Malabon and fresh lumpia took us on a nostalgic trip through memory lane. The Lechon Paksiw, on the other hand, was a bit too fatty for our taste, but the flavors were still enjoyable. Overall, we had a pleasant experience with the party trays and will likely order them again for future celebrations.
When we came here at 5:55 on Sat, 11. November came, most of it was sold out on the menu. I thought they were closing at 8:00, but it turned out that the information I found online was outdated. If I had known they would close at 7:00... Sat, we would have come for lunch instead. This was our first visit and we were excited to taste their full-day breakfast silog meals. We didn't want it to be a visit, so we do with the minimum selection. We ordered pork fillet small, $5.99), the last serving beef kare-kare small, $6.99), steamed rice $1.50/cup), bottle water Nestle, $1.50) and mango juice Paradise, $2.25). The food was served in polystyrene bowls and plates, even the utensils were one way, so no dishes for the staff afterwards. We paid for our order, took the tray and sat at one of the eleven tables of Handaan. Our initial disappointment for missing silog meals was forgotten as soon as we started eating. The Menudo, the Kare wars and the free sine soup all tasted deliciously accurate, as one would expect them to taste. We were the only din-in customers from the time we arrived until we left. Restaurant staff were pleasant and friendly, but it was obvious that they were willing to close for the day – the silence of the floor and the other tables also while we eat. We were not able to eat everything and one of the employees got us lids for the polystyrene bowls as well as a plastic bag and helped to pack our remains. Before we left, we also bought some packed Filipino snacks and candy and some pigs asado siopao $2.99/pc) and Leche Flan $7.00). There is no question how Handaans authenticity, from cooked food, food products for sale, the TV tuned to a Filipino cable channel and the staff all speak Tagalog. This dining is very not Frills – simple cafeteria ambience, no chic decor, but food is 100% Filipino and taste is in place. Handaan Filipino Cuisine is open daily, 9AM to 7PM Tue-Sat, 9AM-5PM Sun-Mon. You only take cash or debit. Limited free parking. Separate male and female washrooms below. Incredibly dense stalls, though – really cramped!
It is nice to see more Filipino restaurants, but this place serves it only with a little too much oil / fat. I know it's more taste, but its just too much.
