They do have a note on the door advising that they closed at 3 pm. Change the website to reflect the new closing time and/or put a note on the door advising that the new closing time is now 3 pm. The handwritten note on the door implies that they just decided to close at 3 pm today.
Downtown on the square, this is more of a lunchtime drop in market. The one on Broad St is one of the oldest places where they do all of their cooking but this place is a convenient stop when you are downtown! Early in the morning looking for a breakfast sandwich or a sweet to start your day? Lunchtime looking for a good chicken salad or a sweet to get your sugar up? This is the place! Super easy to get in and out, why wouldn't you stop here? Some of our favorites at Pollman's are... #1 CHOCOLATE or STRAWBERRY DOBERGE! For a special celebration throughout the year, we love the chocolate doberge and the strawberry doberge! This is the only place I have ever gotten it and I am spoiled for life! What is it about the doberge that I like so much? The rum flavored icing on the and the pecans in the icing on the chocolate one has a really different taste that is very delightful. The fruit filling in the strawberry takes the cake! #2 Petit fours little bite sized chunk of cake, iced on all sides, with a cute design on top of each one. In my pictures you will see the Christmas wreath but they have different designs for all occasions. #3 COOKIES! We love a SANTA CLAUS cookie at Christmas but any time of the year is the right time for Pollman's cookies. Delicious icing, fun shapes, and a just the right balance of crunch and chew make these cookies one of our favorite treats all year long! If you haven't been before, do yourself a favor!
We were staying across the square from this bake shop and walked past it for a couple days without that much notice. In fact, it was hard to tell what it was from the outside as it isn't well marked and about all we could see through the window was a Christmas tree (which was, well, rather odd in late May). Curiosity finally got the better of us, and we entered one morning to find a very nice selection of fresh pastries and such. We got a bear claw and a cinnamon roll decorated like a king cake and found them to be both fresh and delicious. If you're in the neighborhood and looking from something sweet, this is the place.
Butter cream frosting on the dobash cake disappointed me. I expected a more European frosting but guess this was southernized. Way too sweet for me. Try adduce before you spend $32 on a cake that you may not be thrilled to eat. The actual cake was moist and not overly sweet but I didn’t see or taste pudding between layers like done reviews said. Sorry my expectations were very high and sometimes that leads to disappointment as in this case. I would go back and try a cookie or two.
I went to Pollman's Bake Shop Downtown, Mobile. To get some soup. Not good. I usually go to Broad Str. to get the chicken gumbo, but I decided to pop in one city center. It was so watery and had little to no chicken in the soup. I noticed that the young lady gave me that she looked like half a spoon of rice. I thought it was still a good soup. I was wrong. I'm going to Broad Str. Your soup is always good.
