If your a Millennial and grew up in or around Naperville in the 80s and 90s you probably remember deep dish pizza, 50s/60s nostalgia joints, perhaps some theme restaurants. Fast forward to the 2020s. You 're an adult and likely spent your childless couple years living in the city enjoying the hipster life. Now your back with kids of your own. Downtown Naperville has responded with sheik, upscale but not too pretentious hot spots for this age group who want family friendly, yet hip and polished with interesting flavors. A rooftop bar and grill is EXACTLY the way to establish that. With a modern Italian theme, Santo Cielo delivers amazing views, a laid back vibe, and some exciting flavors. I was staying at the hotel with my 7 year old son for a winter break staycation and the server actually crafted a cool kid friendly mocktail my son could enjoy. The menu is a bit small, I would say expand it a bit. Add just a few more familiar appetizers. My son and I were there for drinks and apps, I 'm lucky he is an adventurous eater but I do have a picky eater at home so I know you need to have a few staples on menus for kids. Don 't need to have cheese sticks but a modern take perhaps? (Remember, we 're in the familiest of family suburbs). My kid LOVED the view. We loved the time together in a very Millennial-parent-with-their-worldly-child sort of way.
I was super excited to try this place after seeing that it pop up on the Riverwalk. When we arrived, it was super crowded so I knew we made the right decision. We ordered the oysters and 2 pastas to share. All the food was delicious! Taking off a star because the water that was served tasted so off. I didn't want to drink the water at all after the first sip due to it tasting so odd. Not sure why it was like that, but even when we asked for a new water it still tasted off. Besides that, the food was great and the atmosphere was nice!
Coming from Chicago, we didn't think a restaurant on the top floor of a hotel in Naperville would be all that special, but it was a lovely dining room and bar area with romantic ambient light. While quiet at 5pm on a Tuesday, by 6pm it was surprisingly lively. We only got drinks but our friend's dad loves the pork bao and they ordered one to go. Cocktails were delicious and strong. Their daily g&t special changes. That day it was cucumber and dill and the market price was $16 but the waiter said it was $15. We also ordered a spicy margarita and the tiki tequila drink, which came in a fun glass and went down too easy. Did I mention the drinks were strong? Our waiter was really friendly and appropriately attentive. Free and plentiful covered parking in the lot across the street was a great surprise. If we were looking for a dinner spot in Naperville, we'd come back here and try the food.
Santo Cielo is located on the fifth floor of Hotel Indigo in downtown Naperville. Overall great ambiance with good food and service. I came for dinner and didn 't get a window seat, so not sure if there 's much of a view at night. The décor inside was beautiful and I got a full view of the brightly lit kitchen. There wasn 't enough light to see the menu and had to use my phone 's flashlight. I wasn 't the only one because as I looked around, there were others using theirs as well. Specialty cocktails $14 $16 Gua Bao (pork belly) $13 There are 2 baos per serving, baos are soft and fluffy, great flavor combination. Campanelle Bolognese $24 The campanelle pasta is shaped like a cone with a ruffled edge. Tasty dish. It was easy to make a reservation through their website, which is run by RESY. . o o . ^ ..2022
