Unfortunately I arrived late owing to lots of roadworks in the vicinity of the restaurant and the lack of obvious parking. I parked on the road some distance away.Finding the place on foot was also not obvious. Nevertheless I persevered and got lucky. The restaurant is located on the first floor and once found, I settled in and tried to catch up with the first course of the set menu which was already being served. I went for a delicious lentil curry soup with fried mushrooms followed by an entrecote steak, baked potatoes and salad. Dessert was a trio of delicacies which since escape my memory... I washed this all down with pils beer. I was intrigued to see that the restaurant was doing a good trade for a Monday evening. The staff seemed quite busy but still looked after us well. So, apart from the initial difficulties in finding the place and parking I enjoyed my evening dinner here with my colleagues.
Just tried to eat here but we were told it was too late and they were full. The time was only 20:30 and there was plenty of space! In fact the waiter even said the kitchen stopped working at 21:00. There were at least 20 tables unused but apparently we should have booked. We've gone next door to Zum Vater Rhein where they were quite happy to serve us. Needless to say we won't be returning to Raphael's!
After a tireless walk around the beautiful city of Düsseldorf, we happened across Raphael's with the intention of resting our weary feet over a delightful Altbier. Forgivably the bier we received was a little warm and tasted quite peculiar. However, upon asking for the bill, the opportunistic barman took advantage of our new tourist status in a strange city, and charged us nearly €6 each! We even tipped the deviant!!It was only later upon buying our second bier elsewhere that we realised we had been had. Lowest rating therefore applicable
The restaurant is on the first floor with a great view of the river, one of our party isn't able to walk up stairs but there was a small lift that took 2 people. The interior is modern and stylish, with a good gap between tables so you are not hemmed in by other guests. There is a seating area by the bar so you can relax with a drink if you are waiting for others in your group to arrive, the service is attentive but not intrusive. The menu has innovative dishes with a good selection of fish as well as meat options, and accommodates vegetarians by variations on dishes. The food is delicious, in generous portions and nicely presented. The wine list has a good selection to cater for all tastes and prices. I would recommend a visit to this restaurant if you are visiting the area.
This is a really good restaurant in a very good value price bracket for the quality. Seasonal goose was the reason for going and this restaurant did not disappoint.Goose was served perfectly cooked with a traditional creme sauce. The dish was well balanced with marron, apple, red berries, grapes and orange. The marron and grapes were marinated in seasonal flavours. Really great taste and the best meal I have eaten in Germany. The chef recommended wine was also perfectly suited to the main course. Deserts were of high quality and generous. This restaurant really suited me. 2 people dined and the price per head for 2 courses including a bottle of wine was 115 euro. Good value for the quality and the setting was also a little slice of post-card germany too.
