The gardens were the worst I think I’ve ever seen at any garden open to the public. Overgrown, weedy unmanaged. It was quite shocking to see. We left within a few minutes.
Family was looking forward to a nice cream tea in what looked as though it would be a really nice place. Had to sit outside (no objection covid secure). Tables and chairs needed cleaning up. Tea and coffee served in 'Costa ' type paper cups. Scones clearly straight from freezer and microwaved. Innards all stodgy. I had a Cheese scone which had a mere sprinkling of cheese on the top and none in the mix. The cream for the cream teas was still frozen. Had to wait for it to thaw before use. Awful experience.
Please note this is for the gardens and not the tea rooms We had a 2for1 voucher for the gardens which were £5, we drove through beautiful countryside to get to this place and were quite excited at what we might find we were however, very disappointed to say the least. As soon as we parked and saw the house we were shocked at the run down state of it, the windows looked like they were going to fall apart and the welcome was a dog barking at us, however, as we had driven so far we carried on inside, paid our £5 to the oriental owner and went out to find the gardens. We couldn’t believe what we found which was overgrown flower beds, a run down vegetable plot which had mostly been eaten by snails, fruit all over the ground, rubble everywhere (ie, broken walls), and a smelly, dirty pond. In all it took us 15 minutes at the most to look round. We were planning on having a coffee and cake but upon seeing the interior of the house decided not too and it was vile. The house and setting could be a beautiful place for weddings, etc, but I just can’t imagine why anyone would want to come here as it was one of the most unloved and unlooked after places we have ever been to. The owner should be ashamed at charging anything even if it was free it would be too much (if you are cheeky enough to charge for entrance you really should make sure you maintain it to a reasonable standard). Truly awful place and highly disappointed!
Dropped in here cycling between castles. Delightful, new-age setting. The wholemeal sone was very tasty, my only complaint is that it was definitely smaller than my grandson's classic cream tea scone. Good range of hot drinks. Whole ambience very relaxing.
Quirky and unusual.Good natural food, lovely house and garden. We were made welcome and service was good.
