The waitress (Savannah) had a lot of knowledge about the menu and withstood all of our questions. She was appropriately attentive and personable. She was very efficient. We discovered much of what is on the menu is made on site. Huge plus! We had the kids fish and chips, steak and mushroom pie, and cottage pie. First, the servings are generous. Second, the food is piping, steaming hot. Third, it is all delicious! Seriously, every single bite was very good. The fish and chips are served English style and battered on site with their beer. The steak and cottage pie is so good! It's rich and the steak is so tender it melts. The cottage pie is comfort food to the max! It's all delicious. We WILL return. The prices are a touch high, (not grossly so) but it's homemade and in a tourist heavy area. Totally worth the time.
4 1/2 stars. Great house porter. Waitress was outstanding. I recommend the cod bites appetizer. Same fish as their best in Montetey fish and chips, but cheaper. This place is pretty dead at Friday 4:30, but that is great for us!
Allen and I came out from Monterey Aquarium to find food. We were walking around, and just could not decide what to get! We decided to just pick a random place, and were lured in by the Best Fish and chips label on the outside of their store. We came at a late time around 1 pm, so we beat the lunch rush. We quickly ordered: 1 One order of fish and chips $18? +1 The fish was pretty good in terms of crispiness! Only downside was that there was only one piece....oh, and I guess that it lacked flavor hence the tartar sauce to the rescue . -1 The fries were a bit lack luster. But a good amount! 2 Clam chowder bowl $15? +1 The soup was pretty good! Big portion, lots of clams. -1 The bread was meh. A bit too dry...but at least I finished the bread bowl! Service: there when you need it. Menu: very classic old American pub menu. Pricing: pretty standard- you 'll spend around $15-$20/person for lunch. Overall, would try other places first before coming here if I were to come again!
Wonderful place to eat! 7 of us had lunch here yesterday. The waiter was excellent! I must apologize for forgetting his name but he was great! He said the kitchen was a little backed up and that our food might be delayed. He said this just as we were seated to give us a chance to leave if we wanted to. He said the wait would be about 20 minutes for food, our food started showing up sooner than the 20 minutes he mentioned. The food was delicious! The following was ordered by our table: Calamari Buffalo wings Sweet potato fries Caesar Salads Fish and chips Clam chowder Shrimp salad Vegetable Curry Everyone loved their food! Very tasty and hot! Great place to go to get some nice comfy atmosphere and delicious food!
This is a british themed brewpub thingy right off cannery row claims to have the best fish and chips and awesome beer which is about 50 percent correct. Parking is street only which means there is no parking. In the tourist off season(winter you can get away with being down the block, or in the cannery row garage. In the summer consider parking and walking(riding, bus, uber etc from farther away. Inside they aim for that dark wooden old school euro pub feel, and for the most part they nail it. Lots of table/chair combos scattered around of varying sizes-two spots on up to family of six to eight sized. Room for six or so peeps at the small bar counter-ten if everyone's friendly and has taken a shower. Table service is fairly efficient, and the beertender is one of those craz....er mildly eccentric older gentlemen who is hyper efficient at processing ye olde adult beverages. Not all that great a cocktail spot and while there is a better then expected wine list-not deep, but well selected regional/local wines-the beer is flippen awesome. All the taps are from a old brewery in over in marina somewhere and well, they are some magnificent english ales. That tap wall is a good reason to come here by itself and makes up somewhat for any food weaknesses. Speaking of which..... The menu is more or less your standard pub grub with a focus on UK items. So burgers, fries (that's chips for you UK types , salads (pretty decent if you are the kind of person what goes to a beer pub for a salad. , sheperds pie, patties, various other fried things and UK styled curry (I.E. terrible . Personally I think the fish and chips aren't that great, but (other then the fries the food isn't all that bad-but it misses great. Pricing is reasonable for the area. Pints run 4-6 depending on choices made which is bargain for cannery row, and throwing a burger or the fish/chip combo will put you around twenty to thirty bucks a plate. Again, not too bad for cannery row. So for good verging on great service, mellow atmosphere, rock solid brews, and acceptable if not amazeballs food? Yeah a solid four stars. It's a cool little spot.
