Monterey Fish Co

We received some squid for our summer science school kids! We isolated bioluminescent bacteria from it, and we wanted to extend a huge thank you to all the staff for their generosity! (I also bought some fish, which was delicious!)

This is a fantastic spot for fresh seafood. You won't find better options on the continental U.S.

I absolutely love Monterey Fish Co.! They offer nothing but the freshest seafood, with a focus on all the amazing offerings from the waters of Monterey Bay. The service is friendly, and the family that runs the place is always kind and helpful.

Situated at the far end of the pier, with convenient parking available right in front, I visited this seafood shop for the first time to buy and prepare squid myself. The prices are quite reasonable. While there is a noticeable fishy smell, I believe it mainly comes from the concrete floor and the older wharf environment. I would like to give this place a higher rating, but I was surprised to find that most of the seafood is not locally sourced. I opted for the Black Cod since it was from the area. Perhaps it was later in the day, but the staff didn’t seem very enthusiastic. I might return to try their sole, hoping for a more engaging experience.

I really enjoyed the clam chowder and fish and chips! My father and I stopped by after a long drive, and it was exactly what we needed!
