You can find really good food and wine. We had the opportunity to taste almost all plates in different occasions and we was always satisfied. The portions are rather small but the number of plates do not leave you hungry. Price is too much compared with other restaurants. However worth one visit
Having just returned from a vacation in Portugal, I still had the taste for Portuguese food so I brought my family to Helen's to have them share in my wonderful culinary experience w/Portuguese cod, sardines, octopus, etc. Both the ambience and staff at Helena were pleasant. The food at Helena's was tasty but very pricey for what you get. For instance, the Fish of the Day was good, but not $72 good. Maybe I had become spoiled in Portugal where the food was often delicious at very reasonable prices. Or maybe I'm not factoring in high rent district pricing of Old Montreal tourist spots. In any case, you can get a good meal there, but be prepared to pay a lot for it. The appetizers we had: cod croquettes, chorizo, and mussels were all ok. The other entrée we had besides the Fish of the Day was a pasta casserole w/white fish chunks. That was ok too but nothing to rave about IMO.
I went there a few times with friends and colleagues and it was always excellent. fish are tasty and a great freshness. This time I had a birthday lunch for my friend. the staff was very accommodating with our group of 17 people. The service was impeccable. Everyone enjoyed a lot. helena is one of the best restaurants in Montreal.
Our family went on vacation to Canada for about a week and half. We spent about 2 and half days in Montreal. From all the places we ate in Quebec, Montreal, and Toronto, I have to say the best meal we had during our visit was at Helena. Restaurants in Canada tend to be pricey and the service is not always that great. On our last day in Montreal, we decided spend the day in Old Montreal. After a few hours, we decided to have lunch. We were walking along McGill street trying to find a place to eat and deciding if we should take a long walk to downtown or go back to Old Montreal. We walked to Victoria Station and took a look at their food court. Undecided, we went back outside. I told my daughter to google the restaurants in the area, because I was tired of walking. She found Helena and realized it had good reviews, it was near by, and most importantly it had lunch specials up to 2:30 pm. We walked up and down the street and with Google maps we were able to locate it. The restaurant has a small sign outside, so if you are walking on the opposite side of the street, you don't notice the restaurant. We walked into the restaurant at 2:25 pm and immediately asked the hostess if they still had the special. She confirmed it and immediately sat us down. She brought us our menus and very kindly explained to us the soup choices, entrees, and dessert. She was a very pleasant young Colombian woman by the name of Maria Lucia. Throughout our lunch, she periodically checked on us to make sure we liked our soup, asked if we wanted more bread, if we enjoyed the entree, etc. She told us how she ended up living in Canada, asked us about our trip, and even took the extra time write suggestions on a piece of paper of places we should visit during the rest of our afternoon and evening in Montreal. Overall, I have to give this place an A
