One of my favourite venues anywhere. Such a warm space.
I went to the restaurant la sala rosa and ordered a chorizo sandwich to take away. the price on the map was about $10, as it was accompanied by a salad or fries, according to the server. I asked him how much I'd only get the sandwich, but the waiter told me the price was the same. I was served 10 minutes later, to take away. I asked for a napkin and a fork for potatoes. after taxes, the bill was $13.50. (when the sandwich plate was $10, the chips they added were added to the account. I only wanted the sandwich, but I didn't say anything). In short, I left a tip of $0.50 and then I went down to eat my meal in the basement, where my group rents a small-salle in a weekly way because, you have to say, the building occupied by the rosa sala is what is called a Social Center. Several minutes later, the manager of the restaurant debora villafranca went down to look for me to ask for a more. it was frustrated, lacking in ways and requiring me the amount of tip that servers are required to report. It must be said that in the quebec the tip is not mandatory for the consumer. it is advised, but optional and it may vary depending on the quality of service that the customer considers to have received. Usually at the restaurant, I can leave between 15% or 18% tip, but when you order at the counter, you don't use a table, a toilet or utensils and the service stops at the counter, it's not rude not to leave a tip. We can leave the change and I did: $0.50! (It's the same for soup, grilled chicken or sandwich). However, Madame villafranca allowed herself to leave the restaurant, go down the stairs and hit the door so as to recriminate my action while shouting that the tip is mandatory for the consumer... she held me for at least 5 minutes, mistreated me arrogantly by treating me with all the names and forbade me to return to her restaurant. on this, it must be said that 10 people have witnessed the show. People couldn't believe what was happening. one of the spectators tried to explain to the manager that he worked as a server and that she was wrong. another witness expressed another unpleasant event featuring Madame villafranca. In short, shame to her who does not know the Quebec/Canadian ways of customer service and allows herself to go and search, ridicule and shout to her customers for $2. I don't recommend this restaurant, go rather to the centro gallego, cheaper and that is almost right by side.
Ce little cozy restaurant, La Sala Rossa is serving typical Spanish dishes. We tried some tapas and some were delicious while some were very ordinary. It was difficult to give a fair rating. The service was quite slow but very warm at the same time. My biggest disappointment was the texture of the octopus because the taste was excellent but it was very rubbery. Anyway, I had a great evening and I still think this restaurant is worth the try.
As a visitor in montreal we enjoyed this place very much as it is clearly a local, popular, friendly service, full life and during our meal, borrowed flamenco music from a private function in the main room. eat and drink well and prices ok. not fancy, but at home.
