They don't have a menu listed online or a even printed for takeout customers... and yet the place is constantly filled. That tells you something. I've been going here for the last 15 years. I love the fact that I can roll in after festivities at 1am and still be faced with a short line-up: a true hot-spot. (TIP: they save the large tables for large parties, so if you're just a couple, try to group up with some other couples and split the table... that'll save a potentially long wait in the queue). The hot and sour soup and General Taos Chicken are staples. I'm a tremendous fan of both.<br/ <br/ Con: Don't expect great service (however I've noticed that's been improving). But that shouldn't deter you from this restaurant one bit. It's all about yummy Chinese food. Nothing more, nothing less.
Oh Lalalalala. Been goin there for about 20 years!!!<br/ <br/ Best chowmein, general tao in town imo.<br/ <br/ In chinatown there is VIP that I crave!!<br/ <br/ The place is far from being fancy but I dont go there for the service or the chandeliers on the celling, I go there for the great food and it delivers.<br/ <br/ VIP is on my speedial!!
I visited the restaurant at 3am after a night of drinking. The atmosphere was lively and the food was excellent. A must-try dish is the beef and vegetable birds nest, as well as the salt and pepper pork chops. We also ordered the BBQ pork fried rice and a delicious dry beef chow mein.
I was pleased to find a restaurant that caters to single diners, but I was disappointed that the only option was a fixed full course dinner for $13.95. The meal included Won Ton Soup, Egg Roll, Dry Spare Ribs, Chicken Lo Mein, Chicken Fried Rice, and an Almond Cookie. The portions were generous, and I struggled to finish everything. However, I found the food to be somewhat bland and not quite to my taste preference. If I were to visit again, I would likely avoid the set menu. Despite this, the service was excellent.
I have only been to this restaurant once, and tasted three dishes, but so far Maison VIP is offering the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. The food was fresh, and lacking that 'muddy ' dulled/tired flavor a lot of Chinese food has. Sauces were delicately and really deliciously flavored. Meats were tender and succulent. Portions are generous too, great for sharing several dishes around, which is what we did. If you are in or around Chinatown I can strongly recommend that you Maison VIP a try. If you come during lunch hours, I strongly recommend that you ask for the dinner menu. They will be happy to provide it to you. Enjoy.
