Contribuisci feedbackI went there to have lunch in a weekday without many expectations, but I got really surprised. The place is great and the waiter was nice and polite. I ordered a vegetarian option of the table d'hote (entrée, main dish and dessert). It was around $10 and the food was delicious!
Best food I have ever tasted. I could not stop eating (that is an issue) : it was heavenly. Reasonable, excellent service and staff was very helpful! Quiet and not noisy (which i like) Wonderful neighborhood delight!
My husband and me got a hint for the Masala Palace from a friend. Otherwise we would never have noticed this place in the basement which lookes a bit shady from the outside and actually from the inside as well (it's not really a restaurant to feel cozy). We ordered the AA combo as takeaway and were blasted from the unique taste of every part of it. I ordered a looooot of indian food in my life and it was a always between ok and gros (I have to say that this always was in Germany, maybe that's a reason for it). Well, the Masala Palace really stands out. We ordered two more times after that, the BB combo and the CC, and seriously all of it was amazing. It was not just tasty, everything was totally different, so many flavours. We will order again and again :)
We ordered three courses, although we asked for medium hot, but all were mild. That is an issue with Indian restaurants, that is hot at one place is called mild at another. Anyway, for this place if you are looking for a kick you need to ask for hot and spicy.Service was good.
Not a very enticing place to enter, as it's in a basement, and passingby's have never revealed any crowds down there, but my Mom visiting this last week gave us an opportunity to visit and finally try. Waiter first off was kind of off-putish... not the most friendly ( at least at the beginning) and after trying to engage him with a "so is it going to be good!?" the answer of 'we'll see" didnt inspire much confidence. Some rolled fried breads appeared on the table with some dipping sauces. Both were tasty, but we had to wait a fair amount of time before the food arrived, and while we saw the owner near us giving more of these breads to others while waiting, we never got any more, were hungry and about to ask for anything to much on while waiting, and then the food arrived. We ordered the chicken biryani, very good, Shrimp with eggplant was nice, spicy and rich flavors. Shrimp were large, and there was a fair number inside the little dish. We ordered Naan, and didn't like it. Usually it's fragrant, hot and moist, none of that on this one...and when I asked if there was a way to perhaps get it "better" as sometimes it is buttered, he went and took the remaining naan to the back, smeared greasy butter on it, and it was returned back to us a cold naan with butter. Was a little angry, but at this point I was thinking the waiter had been here so long, he was used to "his ways". At this point, the owner entered and started taking his own tables..he was obviously more engaged with his customers, and we were sad we hadn't had a chance to have him as our waiter, as it would have been a more enjoyable first time experience. We struck up a conversation with him, he said he had taken over the resto just two months. After a few minutes of us finishing off our meal, we were thinking about what to do, and four complementary deserts arrived, delicious bready sweets in a kind of sweet sauce, very lovely, and kind of the owner, but we don't think we'll go back because of the first waiter's service. As Indian food goes, it's decent and pricing was fair.
