We were a group of 10 with reservations. We decided to give Napoletana a try to celebrate birthdays in the family, because we had heard so many good comments about this place.I admit, their food IS excellent. Fresh, flavourful and authentic. Really great quality food.BUT, the service and ambiance is HORRIBLE. I should've known from the moment we set foot in the restaurant, from the way we were greeted (NOT) by the person in charge about our reservation. Rude and made us feel like we had no business there unless our reservation was legit. Throughout the whole meal we were rushed and pushed and stressed to hurry. Only realized why until almost at the end of our main course when the waiter advised us we were on a 2hr timer! What a farce. When dessert time rolled around, all got theirs except for one cannoli that took another 15-20 minutes to be served and a Tartufo ice cream that was served hard literally like a rock and took another 15-20 minutes to come back softened. And to top it all off, one of us got up to go to the bathroom and while she was away, that manager person came around and just grabbed her chair and took it away! Unbelievable! Forget trying to have a nice meal and taking our time celebrating our event. They ruined that for us with their stressful service. And let's not talk about the bathrooms which have no soap, no hand paper or a defective air blower to wash and dry our hands! Yes they're popular, yes their food is good, but the fact that they want to serve as many clients as possible (greedy)? makes them lack quality in their service and overall customer approach. Even saw a waiter rudely snatch a plate from a customers hand because they're so much in a rush and stressed to serve everyone so quickly. I thought going to the restaurant was meant to take time to unwind, enjoy a meal and good times, and have a pleasant experience. Well not at Pizzeria Napoletana anyway!
Advised by giovanni, Montreal (neighborhood of the small italia) of Sicilian origin, we were not disappointed. Tasty pizzas were served. Thank you to the waiter for these good guidance advice and humour. We'll be back!
We spend more the one hour on the line waiting for a table, which I thought it was a sign of great food. Instead, after we were set to a table, our real ordeal started: for one hour we were seeing people at other tables come-eat-and-go with no signs of our food. After a 60 minutes waiting, we complained to the waiter and we realized that the kitchen had lost our order, We had to wait another 1/2 hour to receive our dishes. When finally the food arrived, it was extremely disappointing: my husband's pizza tasted as "those frozen pizzas you buy in any supermarket" - no trace of the blue cheese it was supposed to taste. My cannelloni was soaked in such an acid tomato sauce that I thought it would be a good idea to order Pepto Bismol as dessert, because the sauce was way too much acidic. My friends were hungry but ate half of their pizza only, as those pizzas had no flavor at all. The ambiance was so noisy that we had to scream to our friends in front of us. The restaurant is 'bring your own wine', but contrary to any other restaurant of this type in Montreal, at Napoletana they don't offer an ice bucket to customers, so our experience with our white wine was nothing but frustration. Well, I don't know how could I expect an ice bucket if our table had not even knifes! By the way, cutlery there is distressed and disgusting.Very restrictive conditions of payment (cash only). Complimentary dessert was offered to compensate the delay of our food. Not only desserts are not enough to compensate such stress, but they also added some more disappointment to the night: the desserts were described as homemade but actually they were very insipid. In a nutshell: you have much better options in Little Italy.
Restaurant of the Italian district very frequented and with reason. The service is simple, effective and friendly. The food is excellent, from salads to pizzas to antipasto. Even coffee is great.
