I immediately decided to go with a friend to lunch and we didn't regret it. we sat outside in the shadow and enjoyed it. the starter salad was very good, but it would have been better if a feta cheese had been added. I had the grilled calamari for the main course. the part was generous and grilled exactly right. the potato plant side dish was also good. my friend had a whole fish that was opened all the teller. it was spiced with some crumbs and olive oil. it was definitiw exquisite and fresh . I wish they had two possibilities of desolation and not just one that was very sweet. the service might have been a bit more professional, but it was ok. we will definitely return to zante as soon as we can. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Hooray!!. Costa and Tony are back after closing the St Laurent restaurant due to several years of roadworks ruining trade on that street. The new address is in the le Cantlie Suites Hotel, Rue Sherbrooke O Montréal, QC Canada Parking...underground at the hotel, and if you are visiting Montreal (as you should) this is a great place to stay with sitting room, kitchenette and great rates, right in the middle of The Golden Square Mile The new Zante has nice warm wood pannelling that absorbs a lot of noise. Music is Greek (naturally) but soft in the background. The high back seats are the most comfortable that I have used anywhere, great for my bad back. There are tons of staff, and they run. Nobody pushes there, but on this night Costa was quietly keeping track of everything and everyone, while greeting the guests. Most of the guests were regulars and like us who have been going to Zante ever since the world began, we have been anxiously waiting for the new place to open (and it did, just weeks ago). The menu is big and varied, the cooking, preparation and presentation were all what you would expect from C&A. My fish was about as good as it gets, soft without being drowned in oil or butter and nicely done with fresh herbs. The Zuccini Chips were delicious and the salad fresh and tasty. My Cosmopoitan cocktail was enormous. I would have liked to see a white Malagousia Assyrtico blend from the famous vigneron Evangelos Gerovassillou but the wine list is extensive, mostly Greek and of good quality and very fair prices. All together a great night. We will all be back again and again, and again.
Went to zante last week and sat outside---The weather was perfect and the fish was super-The Greek salat was as good as it gets
We were a party of one ordered a rib steak, which was excellent, and the rest of us shared the mezze for and a saganaki. We had planned on ordering a fish as well, but the mezze, along with wine, was very...filling. Everything was delicious! Our waiter, Jimmy, was fun (only questions allowed) and helpful. At his suggestion, we had backlava and yogurt with honey and cherries for a shared dessert. Also very good. Only negative the Caesars weren't up to par. Still, a really good experience, would definitely return.
After having closed the restaurant on St-Laurent several months back, the guys behind Zante are back, with an upscale restaurant in The Cantile Hotel on Sherbrooke. The decor and atmosphere of the new restaurant is matched by the quality and friendliness of the service. And...the food? Just terrific. Best Greek salad in the city, great grilled fish, and wonderful vegetable sides. A bit expensive, but well worth it because of the quality of the food. Certainly a place to return to.
