For brunch, you have the choice between the "breakfast" formula and for only a few more dollars, the "brunch" formula (for variations on the same themes, but more copied). We opted for the "breakfast" versions of the asparagus Benedictine eggs and blueberry pancakes: the plates were quite copyy to our taste. The two Benedictine eggs were served side by side on the same fccacia-style bread (at least it was written on the menu, it was less obvious in the plate), accompanied by ultra-dry bacon (probably cooked for a long time), a sausage of ambiguous nature, a small (but sufficient) portion of roasted potatoes and a medium bowl of slices of fruit (an) the sauce, vaguely related to a Dutch sauce, was rather rare. As promised, there were asparagus jumped into the pan: abundant, asparagus dice were accompanied by onion pieces (which was not indicated on the map). There was also an ultra-mince slice of ham, too thin to taste under egg yolk. The three rolled pancakes (not pancakes) contained a garnish (de la jam jam jam?) based on wild blueberries, accompanied by a tiny syrup bucket (smart? maybe). They came with two eggs ready for choice. But without seasoning. Each dish came with a piece of grilled half-baguette (not scrambled and without butter provided at the table: it was necessary to get up to go to the counter). Nothing really memorable, but at $8 for pancakes and $12 for Benedictine eggs, including coffee at will, we will not push criticism further.Patient and reasonable service given Sunday morning's affluence.
I had the veal, and my wife had the cod, both plates were great. They serve warm bread, and the desert comes with the meal, its just great. Service was also very very good.
My friends and I always congregate here to chat and catch up. It's great for meetings and informal gatherings. During peak hours it's bustling and super busy, the happening place to be. During slow hours it's super chill and relaxing, with good music softly playing in the background. The walls are red brick, or tiled in colorful patterns, and always covered with wild pieces of art. The design of the place feels cavernous, tricking you with mirrors and welcoming you with arches. You might find yourself by the terrasse, or in a secretive cozy corner, or end up bathed in sunshine under skylight. The food is simple, very generous, and delicious. As someone who is sensitive to a lot of preservatives and/or oils used in restaurant food, I have honestly never ever ever had an adverse effect to anything I've eaten here, and I've tried many items on their menu over the last 2 years. The servers are always warm, kind, and lovely people, welcoming us with big smiles every time we show up. I'll be seeing them again very soon.
The food was very fresh and the plate is quite big. I have not been to any other place where for under eight dollars I can get a breakfast, coffee, orange juice and some fruit.Friendly staff and the atmosphere is great. This place is big and can get actually quite busy on weekends.
Stopped by for brunch on Sunday at this busy spot on St Denis street on the Plateau. Food and service was very good. Enjoyed the the eggs and chocolate crèpes washed down with a breakfast beer ! Le Cheval Blanc - a wheat beer - by a local micro brew still going strong in Montreal after more than 20 years.
