This is a fantastic location in the Old Port. I visited for brunch last Sunday, and the food was incredible—the crepe with duck confit and blueberries was absolutely delicious! The live band added to the experience as well. It's also a great place for after-work drinks and tasty ceviches. It's a refreshing change from all the overpriced tourist traps in the area that tend to offer mediocre food.
L'Assommoir is a lively hotspot overflowing with an incredible selection of drinks. This well-known venue is an ideal gathering place for young urban professionals looking to indulge in mind-blowing cocktails, shooters, and other homemade alcoholic delights. The drinks menu reads like a classic music label catalog, with each drink meticulously described and categorized, allowing patrons to take their time exploring the extensive options available. While the food menu is quite tempting, it is on the pricier side, though it falls within the typical price range for establishments of this kind. If you plan to spend the evening at L'Assommoir, it's worth noting that the focus is primarily on their unique drink offerings rather than the food. The decor features a young-adult professional vibe, tailored to the after-work crowd and younger patrons who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere over the typical loud dance club scene. The music selection is a delightful mix, combining classic crooner tunes from the 60s with modern lounge sounds, creating a friendly ambiance perfect for socializing. It's a space that welcomes a diverse clientele; however, those looking for a more casual beer bar might feel out of place. Pricing at L'Assommoir is moderate for this type of establishment. Local beers are priced at $5 a bottle (or 2 for $8), while shooters range from $4 to $5 each, depending on their exotic ingredients. They also boast an impressive selection of Mojito variants—listed as "Mohito" on the menu—including several non-alcoholic options based on popular flavors. A standout feature is their "pitcher" section, designed for sharing, which elevates the experience and offers a fun alternative to ordering individual drinks. Additionally, there’s a wide-ranging wine selection available. That said, this venue may not appeal to everyone, particularly those who stumble in without an understanding of its distinct ambiance and diverse drink offerings. The prices reflect the exotic nature of the cocktails, attracting a more "in-the-know" crowd. However, if you're looking for a place to entertain colleagues or simply wish to experience outstanding alcoholic concoctions, L'Assommoir comes highly recommended. The service is exceptional—friendly, relaxed, and open to conversation, making it a fantastic choice for any gathering.
Great price for what you get. Open late and great drinks. (No premade mixes) and good service. So glad I finally tried it.
As for my tartare, my friend and I both agreed that the taste of green apple was too subtle but no complaints because I love salmon.
