The Fort - Morrison

This was my second time eating at the Fort in about 12 years. The first time I had heard the reputation of the place and was expecting something quite nice. I was disappointed then. I went to the Fort this time with 4 friends. The service was attentive, however, the poor waiters are dressed like pirates...not sure why, since it's supposed to be a Western Fort setting. We had 3 appetizers (buffalo empanadas, rattlesnake cake, and rocky mountain oysters). The rattlesnake was good, although not sure worth the 25 price. The empanadas were doughy and not very tasty. I didn't partake of the oysters. The meal was served with bread and salad. The breads were tough and apparently previously frozen. The salad was nice and included and interesting ingredient...ginger. I ordered the game plate for dinner. The meats were cooked to order and tasty. However, the sides were very unimaginative, tasteless and drew away from the meat. We tasted 3 desserts: chocolate creme brulee, panna cotta, and caramel brownie. The panna cotta was awful, the creme brulee was bland, and the brownie very uninteresting. I would not recommend anyone spending the amount of at this restaurant when there are so many other excellent places to eat in Denver.

The Fort is one of the restaurants I think about when someone asks me for a uniquely Colorado restaurant. The restaurant outside is a reproduction of Bents Fort and coming into the courtyard you can almost feel you are leaving the present behind and stepping back into the old west. Once you come inside, that illusion fades away as the smells from kitchen hit your nose and your mouth starts craving to taste what is coming out of there. The menu itself is very game heavy with buffalo, quail and many other items to tempt you. The fort is a great place to take friends from out of town to show them a piece of the old west or just to go and enjoy for yourself.

Two of our four meals were served cold! Ever tasted Buffalo Prime Rib served cold? Don't, it’s horrible! But at $39 a plate, what a complete RIP-OFF! Highly over-rated! You'll have a better time grabbing some WARM fast food, then driving up to the mountains and parking for the ambience, not to mention saving yourself about $240!

Went back to the Fort after several years. Food was way overpriced for what you got. Atmosphere is cheesy. Service is just average. A place for tourists and Japanese businessmen to go.

Returned to the Fort after ten years and expected to have another enjoyable evening. Atmosphere and food was excellent. However, service was poor because the wait staff was spread too thin. As an restaurant, I expected appropriate service. Also the person taking the order, continually attempted to 'Up sell '.
