A wonderful location to have a peaceful lunch amongst friends and family. The beauty of it is that after lunch, it's only a 10 minute walk back to Lac des Mines d'or, where we parked the cars. Try the Tartiflette with La Charcuterie! And you taste the mountain life. Make sure you make a reservation: +33 6 08 57 58 33
This is a great little place but not easy to find. Drive through Morzine, past the Nyon, up the Vallee de la Manche, up the hill, past the Mines d'Or and up the mountain again. You can park at Mines d'Or and walk up for about 30 mins up a relatively steep path. The food is half the price of Mines d'Or and the goats come in at about 3pm for milking
Cheese made on the premises, bread from the valley, blueberry jam from the berries just picked on the mountain. Everything is so fresh, the salads dressed perfectly. So so simple yet so very good. Exactly how mountain food should be.This place just oozes charm, i could have stayed there all day despite the pouring rain I had to walk in to get here. It's a must if you are in the area in the summer, just so very good.
The cheese is produced from the cows walking around the restaurant. The "fondue" and the "raclette" are simply excellent. The desserts are also incredible. The alcohol and music show offered at the end of the meal were also very appreciated. If you go to Morzine in summer, you must have a meal in this auberge. It is also an opportunity to have a short walk in the mountain (let your car down in the park).
This must be the most authentic summer mountain restaurant. Lunch times are booked up in advance. Evenings likewise. Part way up to Le Col de Cou. You drive to Lac de Mine D'Or and walk up the quite steep stoney road, surrounded by wonderful rugged mountains. It is possible to drive up, especially with a 4x4. A group of us, mixture of French and English went on the most perfect summer evening last year. So warm, even at midnight. We arrived to the end of the cows being milked, they were just going out to pasture. To 'Heidi' lovers, this is the real thing. Summer mountain pasture and move down in the valley in winter. Dinner is homemade, authentic Haute Savoie fayre. The atmosphere could not be matched in the most refined Michelin starred restaurant. Omlettes, baignette potatoes, salads, fondues, charcuterie etc with desserts of fresh berries and ice cream. The farmers' wife cooks, the farmer plays his accordian and when the son finishes milking, he comes to sing and yodel. One lady waits on. I asked for more water and was directed to the tap behind the bar!! Loved it! A very special evening, with lovely friends and the perfect weather. Many of us were dancing to the wonderful folk songs. A great party atmosphere. At the bottom of this is a box to tick for a scenic view!!! Almost laughable! Even the toilet looks over the pig sty, right down the valley.
