Cannot stop thinking about the beef rendang pie we had. It tasted like heaven. Very friendly staff too.
Okay, You are on the road and its a point A to point B set of circumstances. But you need coffee and a break so you come to a little place that you`ve not heard of before with apparently a skinny but attractive bridge and you see a coffee place, None to dissimilar from any other small town cafe. A couple of good honest hosts manning the counter with a table of locals discussing how much as in the rain gauge Terry? oh a good 4mils when i got home from bowls) and you think ah well i NEED COFFEE so here we go. Out of the corner of your eye you spot the cake cabinet Hmmmm all look homemade so lets have two coffees a slice of the Tea cake and a Ham Cheese toast what have we got to lose. Well pretty much just my ignorant stuck up city slinger attitude i guess. coffee was lovely. I am picking not some hipster single origin fare trade select and my barista certainly seemed bun challenged but perfect temp strong and satisfying. Tea cake full of good ol country flavour lovingly made and a decent slice to boot. The Toastie........Here i intend to wax lyrical for the humble toastie so easy to assemble quite often goes horribly wrong. But this little gem was the model. evenly and well toasted not too thick not to thin bread with lashings of lovely i mean a good 3/4 to full inch thick) of thinly sliced moist ham and here is where the magic is. The cheese was melted without being so runny that your lips chin or mouth ended up in a burns unit but also melted as it should be. Every mouthful of this humble little Aussie was delicious. So with my pretentious, judgemental and uppity ego shattered i salute this place for being exactly what we needed on our short stay and no doubt will return. Failure often lies in simplicity easy tasks go awry but simple, done well is poetry and thats what Redesdale Rural Cafe gifted me. I thank you from the bottom of my weary travellers heart. And oh yes Redesdale, you have a lovely bridge and surround.
Noticed the Rural Cafe driving through Redesdale on the way to Heathcote, so made a point of stopping in for lunch the next day on our return trip. Happened to be a Monday so very pleased the cafe open 7 days a week I understand. Enjoyed a toastie and burger for lunch outdoors, with the coffee and tart a treat for the road. All very fresh and tasty with friendly service. 5 stars for being such a delightful and unexpected experience.
Visited the area to find my fathers birthplace at Mia Mia and stopped off for lunch. This is a simple country cafe..basic fresh food, great coffee and polite staff. Our ham and cheese sandwich was generously filled and utterly fresh.
