Pretty average all around. Parking was easy as it's on the edge of town. Little or no atmosphere. Not sure what else there is in town ?
We had brunch there one morning. It was busy, with a constant flow of people stopping by for something to eat and drink but not loud or crazy as it was a large venue with plenty of space between tables. The food was lovely and well priced. I had waffles with yoghurt and fruit. Maple syrup on the side. Yum. My mother had eggs on toast - perfectly cooked. Hubby had fruit toast. Delicious. Something for everyone. Staff were efficient and very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Great choice.
My wife and I, beginning our holiday in South Australia from Melbourne via The Great Ocean Road, spent the night in Port Fairy, then next day continued into SA. Feeling peckish upon reaching Mount Gambier we looked along the main street for a suitable cafe or restaurant serving late lunch and the Vanilla Bean caught our attention. Well, everything about this cafe was top class. The food, wine, coffee, service, and ambience was terrific. I did not think it was over priced as some might say, but rather payment for quality and presentation. Will definitel stop there again!
Mt Gambier does not have too many cafes and restaurants, so it was on the cards we would visit 'the bean'. It might be quite new. It looks it: clean, modern, good furnishing, lots of space. Service is on the ball. Menu is not overly imaginative but what made me blink was the prices. Maybe it was a holiday menu? That said, it is still one of the better cafés in the town.
