If you decide to go for lunch, pay attention to lunch. Not only will it be more difficult to get a table, but also the line for the buffet can be long and who likes to just stand in the buffet line that looks at the food? I'm guessing a bit before lunch like going at 11:30.
Amber India serves North Indian food in a tiny, cheap looking stripe shopping center of El Camino. If you like Indian food and live in South Bay, you probably have already eaten here. Their prices are not cheap (it is even $1-2 more capable of Santana Row), but they serve high quality Indian food and have been the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area for several years. For me it is about the butter Chicken (aka Chicken Makhani). With some fresh hot naan, I don't think I had a better Indian dish. The sauce is just... aromatic. The chicken Biryani is cooked with rose water, there is a very nice taste (but the chicken flakes are too big for my taste). Your Tandoori dishes are delicious, and the Mulligutwany soup is also quite good. I liked the Dum Aloo Bukhara, but on a recent visit it was disappointing. Her cormas are also a bit too creamy for me. But again it's about the butter chicken.
