Contribuisci feedbackDon Artemio was absolutely amazing and worth every mile of the trip. Initially, my wife and I were hesitant about making the journey from Monterrey to the restaurant on a Sunday, but we soon realized it was a fantastic decision. The chile en nogada was the best we've had in years, the cocktails were exceptional, and the servers went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Overall, it was a one-of-a-kind experience that we highly recommend.
Although my reception, table assignment, and menu delivery were disastrous due to the bad attitude of a grumpy waiter, everything changed to wonderful when I reported the incident and was attended by two of their captains, whose service and attention only deserve one adjective: "exceptional". The place, architecturally, is very interesting as it is inspired by a Coahuilan mansion, of which there is still evidence in the historic center of Saltillo. Very much in line with that spirit of honoring the local, which I celebrate, is their selection of mezcal and wines, which includes both the most renowned from the oldest winery in the continent (Casa Madero), the wines from a young boutique winery like Bodegas del Viento, or even those from a family artisanal winery like San Juan de la Vaquería, all 100% from Coahuila. For starters, I tried the tortilla soup, with a thick and robust broth, which, like good wines, up to the third spoonful, you can appreciate the balanced mix of chilies and vegetables from the garden, which along with the homemade nixtamalized tortilla gives it a unique touch. For my main course, I ordered the medium-rare ribeye, which allowed me to appreciate the great quality of the meat and the subtle flavor of its fat that paired perfectly with a glass of Kurdo from Bodegas del Viento. To make up for the bitter reception, they gifted me strawberries with cream for dessert, which also included blueberries, and a glass of an artisanal red wine from San Juan de la Vaquería, reminiscent of a Cote du Rhone. Without a doubt, on my next trip to Saltillo, a visit to Don Artemio will be a mandatory and unmissable activity.
The server was extremely impolite, pressuring for a specific tip amount in an unprofessional manner. Tipping should be based on the level of service provided and should not be forced. I usually tip generously, so there was no reason for it to be demanded. After this incident, I will not be coming back to this restaurant.
The food is excellent, especially the steaks. Don't miss the fried cactus as an appetizer. The place has very little tourists and lots of repeat locals, a
Ate here several times. Excellent steaks. Expensive but worth the money. It is one of my favorite places to eat in saltillo.
