Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant

We purchased our lunchtime takeaway and was pleasantly surprised.The Mango chicken was delightful and the sweet and sour pork was great.The rest of our meal was just as good.Next time we're in Mudgee, we will eat in and see if the service is as good as the food.

This is the review nobody should ever have to write, but I am waiting to find out if hubby and I have food poisoning, and the purpose of Trip Advisor is to give people the heads-up before they go places.The Golden Dragon were reckless and I believe they're a health disaster waiting to happen.Honey King Prawns and the Seafood Combination with XO sauce ( chef's recommendation menu) and a fried rice were ordered - and yes, you know exactly where this is going. The Honey King Prawns arrived with the honey sauce on the side and not quite enough of it. The batter was hot and crisp, but the prawns tasted strange and we initially assumed they were marinated in some kind of a dark sauce before battering. The flavour was all wrong and the dish was left half eaten.The XO sauce on the seafood packed a fair bit of heat (as it should), but not even the chilli could disguise the flavour of rotten scallops. When broken open, the stench of the scallops was stomach churning. Upon closely checking ( smelling) the remaining honey King Prawns, it became immediately apparent that a strange marinade was not the source of the off flavour.I will give the Golden Dragon credit. When we alerted the staff, they did not attempt to lie or argue, although the smell of those scallops made it pretty much impossible.The chef came out and apologised profusely, saying the restaurant freezer had broken down and it had taken time to procure two more freezers to replace it.We were not charged for the meals and under any other circumstance I would have felt sorry for such nice and genuinely remorseful staff, but when it comes down to it, our 19th Wedding Anniversary has been ruined and now we are sitting in a motel, worrying about food poisoning because the Golden Dragon chose not to discard spoiled food they should have been able to claim on insurance.Hopefully, these were just exceptional circumstances.

We noticed this chinese restaurant whilst staying in Mudgee over the easter week. My husband and I grew up in country towns with the local chinese restaurant being the limited take away available. This chinese restaurant was the chinese we remembered. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly and extremely fast.This chinese has Sydney prices so don't expect a bargain but the food will not disappoint.

The Golden Dragon provided a hone delivery evening meal order for a reunion group of 12 visitors to Mudgee. The quality and variety of the food was excellent and very happy with the service provided. Thank you Golden Dragon, Mudgee
