Definitely the best dinner I had in Hakuba. The Shabu-shabu was ineffective!
Limited take away items because it seems Hakuba's culture doesn't really support it. The tempura was bland and they didn't include the tempura sauce which is a crucial item to completely enjoy tempura. The maguro salad was drowned in dressing. They couldn't put anything on the side because they don't have any small containers. The hiyahsi tofu was decent and the gyoza was deep fried.
We have a family rule not to eat at hotel restaurants. Sharaku is why. Soulless dining room. Mediocre food ... tries to do everything but does nothing well. Expensive for what you get. Staff were friendly and helpful. There are vastly better little family run places in Hakuba. For the unadventurous only.
Saw some mixed reviews about the restaurant so we decided to try it for ourselves. We were disappointed to say the least. Ordered some sashimi, tempura and the shabu shabu. Sashimi was fresh the tuna was the standout. The tempura was nice. The real disappointment was the shabu shabu. You’d think that the 10000 yen price tag it would be everything you’d hope for, but it wasn’t. 5 slices of wagyu that was supposedly 250g, a mountain of cabbage it was just a let down. Plenty of other restaurants demanding the same if not less money for a better product around.
