Serpent served in an ice box. Great presentation, good environment. I recommend the regular part, as it was quite full. You “fill” your tea by adding a new cup.
A MUST try eel rice in Nagoya. Highly RECOMMEND to come earlier as it always had a long queue. I have waited for over an hour but it's worthy to spend time for this delicious and authenic Nagoya's cuisine. You won't regret!
I came here with my friends and we tried few different things. We had the Unagi Bone Sembei and the Unagi Kimoyaki as appertizer. The bones are very very crispy as like we are eating chips, and they also serve with some Himalayan salt on a side for customer to dip for extra flavour. The liver of Kimoyaki was very tender and the sauce are very tasty. We ordered different entree, mine was the Hitsumabushi. The Unagi are well grilled with a nice charcoal flavour, they are already very tasty without adding other thing; but you have different tasting level after adding the bottle of sauce/soup into it. I personally like it without adding the broth, because I like the strong charcoal flavour in the Unagi, I feel like the charcoal flavour got diluted a little after adding the broth. I will definitely come back if I come to visit Nagoya again!!!
A must visit when coming to Nagoya. The restaurant that made Hitsumabushi famous. Thinly sliced crispy grilled eel with a slight char dipped in the delicious unagi sauce on a bowl of firmly steamed rice. Can enjoy 3 ways when eating, simply just the eel and rice, with green onion and seaweed with wasabi and with that poured with dashi soup. Also come with soup and pickles. You can also ask for Sansho (Japanese spice) , more unagi sauce or toothpicks. Will be served hot Japanese tea as well. Great if you can come on a weekday at night. Came here Friday around 19:00 and only waited a few minutes. Will have crazy lines if you come on weekends and at lunch time. Hitsumabushi ¥4,400 Gochiso-sama deshita!
Highly recommended. They’re famous for grilled eels. Hitsumabishi set was great, you can try having the meal in different ways. Reservation is recommended if you can make one ahead. Queue was very long though we arrived shortly after the opening time. But it’s good that they’ll tell you exact period of time you’ll get in so you can do something else while waiting. Service inside the restaurant was nice and fast. Price is a bit on the high side.
