Smitty's Family Restaurant - Nanaimo

I am a 'regular ' at Smitty 's but I usually just order burger. A few days ago I ordered the supper special roast pork and I was very pleased with what arrived on my plate. A delicious roast pork serving with three vegetables... very healthy, delicious and at a great price. Well done Smitty 's.

Hot, fresh coffee, eggs the way I like 'em, a couple choices for the type of hash browns and toast, and bacon....and the waitress remembers that I 've been there before....I 'm good!

Very reasonable priced, very basic table sand chairs. good service. For real stick to ribs meal, go for the Ukrainian skillet.

This restaurant is a great choice for getting back to normal life. It was clean, the food was good, and the tables were spaced out well. The servers have adjusted well to all policies.

In 2018, I gave this restaurant a five-star rating. It was an excellent diner! However, since the onset of Covid, the reopening should not have happened. As someone who has owned restaurants for decades, I understand the challenges faced by restaurant owners during this time. However, if the standards had to be lowered to this extent, it would have been better to remain closed. The menu, which was once impressive, is now just a double-sided sheet of paper. The Skillet dish is completely unacceptable - it is much smaller and of lower quality. You are only given one choice of strawberry jam with your toast. The service, which used to be outstanding, is now poor. Despite there being only five occupied tables and two servers, they both seemed to be hardly present during the hour I was there. I had to practically beg for a coffee refill and when I tried to request another one, I was ignored. The server would avoid making eye contact with me. What used to be Smitty's has now become an expensive, low-value establishment to be avoided. It's a shame!
