Not good enough.I baked a strawberry coffee cake last week, and it was mind blowing good rich in flavor, soft and fluffy, beautiful crumb. So I was excited to try this strawberry coffee cake. Unfortunately, can’t really taste the strawberries, crumb on top is too hard, cake texture could be softer.Kouign amann didn’t spark joy I expect from beautiful lamination of butter and caramelized sugar… just wasn’t there.
I went to this darling and impeccably clean bakery this morning. I was staying at a nearby hotel and found it on Google. What a find! I wish I could’ve tried one of everything in their display case but I ended up with a morning bun and a double espresso. It was the best morning bun I’ve ever eaten. The coffee was good, too. I wish I had gotten a few other pastries to take back with me to my home in Monterey. I’ll definitely go back when I visit the Napa Valley again.
If you have three employees behind the counter, at least acknowledge customers who are waiting their turn at the counter.
Full disclosure I took far more pictures of pastries than what I actually tasted but what I did taste was delicious. Ordered:Banana cream croissant: flaky, buttery croissant filled with a banana flavored cream that tasted like real banana (not faux flavoring) without being overly sweetPina colada cruffin: could have possibly done with a tiny bit less pineapple jam filling but still tastyEverything was great!
