The cocktails are built with precision and care. The bartenders are highly trained, and happy to discuss the details of Mixology with you. You can even find rare things on the menu such as Pappy Van Winkle. Just be prepared to not know if you are in the right place. With no signage outside, and only a tiny address number on a tiny mailbox on the porch of this big old house, you might drive or walk past it twice like we did. Just follow the people. Sadly, we hear that this bar is moving to a rooftop location. Personally, I think this is a terrible move. If I want a gorgeous prohibition-style bar, I wanted to be hidden and secluded... I don't want a rooftop view. There are lots of other places in Nashville for that.
First of all, if I could give them negative stars I would, but hopefully my post will get the point across. Myself and two friends, one who happened to be black, were standing in the doorway when they opened. That 's when the s started! After everyone else had been let in, finally a staff member let us in. We were all dressed nicely because we had plans for dinner later at Sambucca and were just going to have a few drinks before heading to the gulch. Immediately, all eyes were on us because two white women were with a black man! The bartended finally took our order and after waiting almost 15 minutes to get our drinks, we went ahead and order another round. There were two guys sitting around the corner of the bar from us and one of them whispered something to the bartender and began to laugh and staring directly at us. By this time, we all felt very uncomfortable. The bartender came back to us without our drinks but rather our bill. The three of us began to ask questions about it and the only answer we got was, you don 't fit in here and need to leave! Needless to say, our blood was boiling! We knew why. We weren 't stupid! It was because there was a black gentleman with us. In fact, he was the only one in the bar! By this time, I was irate because we were paying customers just like the rest of the crowd in there, with the exception of one thing....my friend was black. My friend and I had words with the whispering customer and bartender and told them they were racist and if our bill was getting paid, someone else would have to pay it! I shoved the empty glasses at him so hard they broke and proceeded to tell them that my friend, who happened to be black, was a better human being than both of them and they needed to look in the mirror at themselves. As we got to the door to exit, my black friend politely handed the bartender money to cover our drinks and believe it or not, enough for a 25% tip!! We turned and walked away knowing we 'd never be back, but could hold our heads up knowing we were the better people! So, for anyone considering going, don 't! They don 't have any morals about them whatsoever and are udder and complete racists!! Save your money and hit Bar Louis and Sambucca. They were extremely attentive and glad to have our business!
My mom and I stopped in here after dinner on a weekday and had about a 5 minute wait. We were seated at the bar and had the best service! We loved it so much that we made sure to come back our last night in Nashville. The wait was a little longer since it was a Friday. We waited about 45 minutes maybe. The drinks on their menu are sorted by alcohol and start off basic at the top and get a little more adventurous as you go down. Each specialty drink was $17. There wasn't a drink that I didn't like but I would say the Lady Stardust was my favorite. I would come back every single time I visit Nashville!
This hidden little gem can't be missed if youd like to experience what a 5-star speak-easy cocktail lounge looms like. When I say hidden, our Uber driver even circled the place twice. The wait is well worth it for the professionalism and knowledge you get from behind the bar. And what a selection of spirits, from the crafty menu down to Pappy Van Winkle's 15-year by the ounce. But the decor is perhaps my favorite part...from behind the velvet curtain of the tiny cozy waiting room appears its low ceilings covered in pressed tin tiles, warm lovely chandelier lighting and lots of intimate seating options. They're moving though! : I only hope the new place can duplicate this perfection.
I stopped in while staying in the area one evening as I absolutely love finding unique cocktail bars. I was fortunate to score a decent seat at the bar and Jason was my bartender. They have an interesting, large and unique menu and the décor is fabulous! Very dim/dark and intimate in there! He helped me pick out a cocktail, I opted for the First Family and it was outstanding! One of the best cocktails I've had in a while! Not very sweet, slightly nutty and the alcohol was perfectly masked with the flavors. I also tried their smoked chicken wings and they were pretty decent too, but they're wings. I highly recommend stopping in here! Especially if as a couple or even a group looking for an intimate setting to chat!! But good luck finding a large sign outside to point you to this place, it's tough to find!
