But, one of our party is vegetarian, and they can't alter any of the dishes. They said he could order an a la carte, but that just seems stupid. They wouldn't let the rest of us do the feast, and it's really their fault that they can't do the feast vegetarian, not ours so they shouldn't ban the entire table from doing the feast when there's a vegetarian at the table. Subtracted a star for this, it's not inclusive and just sort of stupid.Place is quite small but spacious, wooden building with an open kitchen which was pretty cool. Service was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The 4 of us got: cornbread: liked the butter and cracklins, cornbread was very soft and tasty sourdough bread: nothing too special, bread was very soft, outer shell was harder but fine roaster squash: flavorful squash, the flavors blended well potatoes: very mediocre, nothing special. Would not recommend. grits: amazing and smooth flavors, well cooked grits, cured egg yolk was delicious as well mane mushroom: the clear winner of the spread, the mushroom had an amazing, flavorful crust and the texture of the mushroom was like fatty meat. It was so tasty, and everyone at the table adored this dish. chicken dumplings: very tasty as well, chicken was flavorful and soft, not overcooked nor dry. Dumplings were very soft, and the broth was delicious. I loved the broth, so flavorful with the chicken. butterscotch pudding: surprisingly not overly sweet, very smooth texture, light butterscotch taste jasmine tea ice cream: super delicious ice cream, very smooth, no ice crystals inside it for sure, and the jasmine tea flavor was extremely strong. Really delicious, my clear favorite out of the desserts apple cobbler: pretty normal dessert, not super amazing but made well, vanilla ice cream that came with it was smooth. All of this came out to be around $350 which is pretty pricey. Small portions and we ordered two of the grits and two mushrooms, but everyone came out full. Definitely the type of place where we have to order multiple dishes; come with many people so you can try a lot of them!
I hate to do this to a multi year James Beard award recipient, but the food is just not that good. Ambience: it 's minimalist and beautiful. The exposed kitchen, leather accents, wood elements were beautiful.Service: solid. Servers were knowledgable about the dishes and pairings.Food: I did The Feast and I was disappointed. The flavor profiles of some dishes were straight up strange. The cornbread tasted like cardboard. The fried apples had onions and other bitter type elements that were unexpected but not in a good way. The grits were good as was the salad. The catfish entree was tasty. The dessert was very good. Everything else was bad meh. I had to spit out the shaved ham (salty as hell with weird aftertaste) and the pork (tiny but not good weird tasting).I 'm giving 2 stars largely because if you are charging a premium for it, I expect you to deliver not just on service and ambiance.Overall, I had high expectations that were not met. I would not recommend and would not return Nashville has so many other food options that run laps around this place.
I had this place on my list for so long. Since I was visiting a friend in Nashville, I made sure to try to make a reservation. I did it relatively late but I still had a bunch of availabilities for Sunday brunch. One thing that stood out to me was they were so nice in accommodating pushing our reservation earlier so we could go to a last minute whiskey tour which was 30 minutes away. The entrance of the building was slightly hidden so we needed a few minutes to find it. But it was cute. Inside, the kitchen was open so you could see the chefs working on orders at your table from a distance. The setting had a dark feel but it wasn't too dreary due to the use of other colors (dark green chairs) and the light from the window. Plus the artwork gave it an interesting sight while waiting for your food. Our waiter was so wonderful and was great in helping us to decide what to order and did it with good humor.Let me tell you this, don't miss out on the cornmeal pancakes. It is perfectly crunchy and soft while having the perfect amount of syrup (no extra is needed). I fell in love with apples again through this dish. We also got the Appalachian breakfast and that sausage gravy is a banger. We also had the crab and grits with egg and it was so good! I do believe they change the menu sometimes so some things we had may not be there. We also had drinks and I appreciated that there zero proof drinks were cheaper than their alcoholic options. The summer shandy was fun. Overall, we had such a fun time. My friend wanted to bring her mom back and I would too. Would love to try dinner here in the future
We were visiting Nashville for the weekend and got a last-minute reservation for dinner at Audrey. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but the hostess seated us right away.Since it was our first time and wanted to try as much as we can, we opted for The Feast, which costs $99 per person. Our server, Garrett, walked us through the menu and made adjustments as my date does not eat pork. For the first wave, we had Sourdough with Butter, Mister Stripey Tomato, and Fried Apples. Each of this dish was more than what we expected in terms of quality and taste. It was mindblowing. For the second wave, we had Killed Lettuce and Onions, Cherokee White Grits, and Lamb Belly and Sweet Potato Skewer. The grits was so delicious and the lamb belly and sweet potato skewer with paw paw sauce was excellent! For the third wave, we had Audrey 's Chicken and Dumplings, Bone-in NY Strip Steak, and Potatoes with Sassafras. It was impressive how these traditional dishes were upscaled using Appalachian ingredients. For dessert, we had an Apple Cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream. I can not describe how heavenly this dessert is. With the food and the ambiance, Audrey is definitely a must visit in Nashville. I could not wait to visit this restaurant again when I return to Nashville.
Went for brunch, had the steak and egg, orange juice and a lime water. The juice is freshly pressed and the steak was perfectly seared. My wife had the Appalachian and let me say that the those eggs were beyond perfect. Slightly pressed my don't turn out that way at home. Staff was attentive and the kitchen flowed very well. Will return!
