With it being the middle of the week and the locality of Nazare on the precipice of a lockdown, it was unsurprising that our faves were all closed for business. A lota was one of only five food dispensing establishments open so we decided to give them a try. The lulas grehladas (grilled squid) I ordered was the best I 've had in 20 years. Three hours after the meal, the Mrs. is still sighing with satisfaction from her porco Alentejana (pork w clams) ingestion. Can 't wait to be back next week to try their cataplana. Obrigado Stephania.
Service was very attentive, we were there in the off season on a weekday, so not many diners. We had the caldeirada do peixe for 2. One of the best fish stews we’ve had here. They were missing a few wines and appetizers from the menu, but understandable because it is the off season.
We visited during a very busy lunch service. As a family of 7 we expected to wait a little while for a table and after about 10 minutes they managed to find us a space. The lovely waitress, Stephanie, explained that they were a staff member down in the kitchen and she was switching between helping her mum in the kitchen and serving on the restaurant. Our kids had mussels which were delicious in a tomato and pepper sauce. Our eldest daughter had octopus which was amazingly tender. My husband and I shared a seafood platter. It was delicious. The crab meat and sauce were definitely the highlight although the clams were a close second. Would definitely go back!
They forgot about a dish we ordered, that's bad. They brought something we didn't order, even worse. The food isn't that great, in Alentejana they mixed meat with meat of the day before. Then the waitress came to us, asked if we needed anything. I didn't complain about anything as I'm vacation mood but the waitress noticed we had empty plates on the table and didn't take them out. And not even the coffee came out right. Not coming back.
Was really happy with the food and service the staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, good value for the money, really enjoyed talking to Stephanie the owners daughter who was born in Canada. I recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to Nazare ...enjoy the great seafood and warm smiles....
