But then I see that most other reviewers were much taken with this medieval jewel of a town. You can 't help but feel transported into...another time when you enter the only gate into Dilsberg. My wife and I visit the Metzger brothers at the Sonne on every Germany trip (about once a year) and for the past ten or so years we have never been disappointed. The menu is varied and caters to a wide range of tastes; all the dishes, particularly sauces are delicate and well presented. My wife 's main course was a vegetarian dish in puff pastry with a cream sauce, I however am a die-hard fan of venison especially if so very expertly prepared, so I had Rehbraten and a side of chanterelles in cream sauce. As I write this, I am salivating and also thinking of the delectable bread dumplings which accompanied this culinary delight. I don 't think this species of deer exists in North America. So, if you 're a venison fan don 't miss an opportunity to taste this delicacy. Of course a hearty and dry Riesling completed this fine meal. Our next visit is in March 2016; will there be venison on the menu ? One can hope.
The food was delicious, service excellent, the town is adorable--lots of fun and well worth going to. They had a children 's menu so our grandchildren were happy. Went there again with a friend several nights later and the proprietor remembered me and asked how my...grandchildren were. About 5 nights later we came home to Neckargemund from an exhaustive day of sightseeing and both decided that another trip to Zur Sonne was in order and we kept our fingers crossed that they were open that night. Fortunately they were and seated us outside in their shaded, ivy-walled patio. As we enjoyed our meal we couldn 't help congratulating ourselves and saying THIS is what we came to Germany for!
The Zur Sonne does not get any drive-by customers...one does not go there by accident. The mailing address is Neckargemund, but the location is Dilsberg...a tiny walled town on a small mountain overlooking the Neckar River. The food is wonderful, and well worth the trip....Parking will likely not be available adjacent to the restaurant, but ample parking is provided just outside the gates to the town--although this entails a healthy walk up the hill. On our most recent visit, my wife had a lamb dish with a cous-cous dish that also featured figs. She observed at the time it was the best meal she'd ever had.
Super nice service, very, very tasty goose, was a great evening, go, test, recommendation food: 5 service: 5 atmosphere: 4
In short, food quality is very good, service very courteous and child-friendly, although otherwise almost nothing was going on, very polite and patient. Service: Food type: Lunch
