The Bullpen Grill - New Athens

A friend and I have eaten there twice. NEVER AGAIN! We were treated very poorly by two different servers. They were both rude, snooty smart asses who thought they were better than us for some reason. The food was not good at all. The first time I thought it was dirty grease. The second time we both had bad food burnt fries and soggy lettuce. I got sick from eating there and my friend said a family member also got sick from eating their expired food. DON 'T GO THERE! Terrible food AND terrible servers with bad attitudes.

The food isn 't bad for being in the boondocks of the Kaskaskia. The only fault would be the under age drinking that often goes unnoticed.

My husband and I have never dined in, but this is our go-to place for fast, affordable takeout. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of the food is surprisingly good, even though it’s just pub fare. The portion sizes are generous, especially the salads. We were initially unsure about just ordering salads, wings, and burgers, but we ended up with plenty left over for a midnight snack. I highly recommend the Bull Pen for a quick lunch or an early dinner.

My husband and I visited this bar on September 16, 2017, around 8 to 8:30 PM. It wasn't very busy; there were several open seats at the bar and around it. We noticed a gathering in the back for Ducks Unlimited. We settled into two bar stools in the corner. Unfortunately, the bartender never acknowledged us or made any eye contact. She served cocktails to other patrons, even giving some their second round without stopping to check on us. Despite my husband waving his arms to get her attention, she still ignored us. Confused and disappointed, we decided to leave quietly. This was one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever had, and it's certainly the worst we've faced in a long time. Strangely, we've been to this place several times before and had always received good service, and particularly enjoyed the excellent hamburgers. We really don’t understand why the bartender acted as if we weren’t there.

Nobody answered when I arrived, even though the restaurant was open. They usually have terrible service, and it often takes about two hours to get your food. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you and your family are looking for a quick dinner.
