French fries are not fresh. It tastes like it came from a frozen food bag. Some dishes were not fully cooked.Under new ownership and slowly going down the tubes
Antonio's is the grande dame of New Bedford's Portuguese restaurants. Packed with locals speaking a mix of New England English, Luso-American accented English, Cape Verdean Creole, and various sorts of standard Portuguese, this is the gold standard of authentic and unpretentious Southeastern New England Portuguese cuisine, a time capsule of an ungentrified New Bedford from decades past, where the food is cooked to locals' tastes, rather than any sort of upscale or fusion reinterpretation of it. They serve absolutely massive platters of beautifully spiced meats, seafood, fried potatoes, peppers onions, for surprisingly little money. Seriously, don't plan on making dinner for at LEAST two days after, even if you're a big eater like me, you WILL struggle to finish even 40% of your meal. It's invariably crowded (for good reason! and they don't take reservations (so very Old World of them , so go early if possible. Service is always good and waitstaff are very good at what they do.
