Food is delicious and authentic. A few people in my party even ordered some extra food to-go after our meal because we enjoyed it so much. However, we were auto charged 20% gratuity on the take out food as well (separate check which just feels opportunist. One person even added an additional tip, not realizing it was already included (totaling 40% , and our waitress said nothing. Wanted to come back, but this left a bad taste and will likely not be returning. At least not for take out.
Great place, great food, and a great vibe. The food took a lil while to come but there were 7 of us so we weren't stressed. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating.
I’ve had this saved in my ‘want to try’ list for some time and was able to finally get there yesterday (7/6 . CT just doesn’t have many Cuban restaurants and being a Floridian-born Puerto Rican, I was craving it. My daughter and I got there just after noon and there was one other couple seated. Sticker on the door indicated this is a black owned restaurant which I was excited to support. The dining room is small, but also intimate. Very beautiful Afro Cuban religious art (Oshun and Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre adorned the walls. There were also older pictures that I could have spent an hour or more looking at. Pleasantly surprised to know you have a sister restaurant in Tampa where a lot of my family is located currently. (Already told them to try it there. Appetizer was the Soul Sampler. I really enjoyed the spinach croquetas. Mixed the regular and spicy mojo sauce to my preferred level of spice to dip. I can’t have beef, but my daughter enjoyed the papa rellena. Tostones were on point. Lunch entree for me was the Cuban sandwich which I opted with chips. It’s Tampa style with salami which I was happy to know was made with just pork so I was able to keep it on. Having homemade mariquitas would have been the icing on the cake (instead of the premade kettle potato chips . Sandwich taste was great. Pulled pork was juicy and flavorful. My daughter opted for the pollo de ajo y naranja. She really enjoyed it and offered me a taste of chicken which I thought was very flavorful. The black beans were slightly bland to our taste. It was a hot day and the air conditioning could have been a little cooler inside the restaurant (my preference of course . Would love to have tried a coffee or mixed drink, but didn’t want to have alcohol and ate a bit too much to add coffee (or dessert . The flan will be my next thing to try. Waitress was nice. Will come again.
Being a Cuban spot, thought it would have been better
