Prepare to wait a little bit, but you have extra time to enjoy your companions the atmosphere. The birria tacos are easily the best in town and the fish is delicious. Good experience overall.
This is one we want to succeed but we just have not seen it yet. They had been open a few weeks when we stopped on a Sunday. Just a few tables full, but it was obvious the young waiter was struggling. One couple left, very graciously, saying they would be back. We had 2 orders of fajitas, and 1 carne Asada. The fajitas were good, my steak was okay.. We assumed it was just an understaffed day and made a note to try again. Our next try was a Friday night. Walked in and there were two tables seated. It was obvious one had just been seated. A few moments later a party of 4 came in. At this point we have 4 tables, 12 customers. The waitress was very friendly, but again, struggling. She took our drink order, brought it a few moments later, said she would bring straws and I finally got them after she took our food order. There was at least a 5 minute (closer to 10+ gap between bringing our drinks and taking our order. We noticed there were some to go orders going out as well as our 4 tables. Chips and salsa are not complimentary but somewhere in our wait the waitress brought us a bowl of chips and the house made salsa (green stuff was great! because the wait was so long. We had been there about 30 minutes when the party that arrived just before us got their food. A few minutes later, the group that came in after us was told by the waitress that they had run out of meat. It looked like they were comped for their drinks and they left. The waitress came to our table and said that they had run out of meat, but ours was the last one cooked. We received our food. It was all fine. The carnitas on my chimichanga was not my favorite but the guacamole was good, and the fry was crisp. My husband was happy with his order (special: ques-rilla? although the sauce or bowl of stuff it came with was cold. The waitress gave us a discount due to our wait. I also think she comped our drinks. The long delays in time did not seem to be due to her not being busy; she had been doing something almost the whole time we were there and when we left she was rolling silverware for the next day. From a food perspective this isn't my favorite but we enjoy variety and if they were hitting we would want to try more things. I have to give both wait staff persons credit for effort and trying. Both times we encountered friendly people but either too much was expected or something was going wrong that we could not see. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in New Iberia. Zarape is different; we would love them to succeed. Hopefully we have just had the misfortune to catch them at bad times.

I got the Quesa Birria hardly any meat with a lot of chunks of fat.
Today was my first time here, but it definitely will not be my last. I got the Queso Birra tacos and they were delicious. Fresh, made to order and so tasty. My waitresses was personable and my food came out in a timely manner. Atmosphere is laid back and quaint. Definitely recommend.
