Best kept secret in southeastern ct! the hemmingway: absolute hidden gem with excellent food, excellent service and fair trips for quality. recommend the daily specialties. both texmex and cajun are included. ignore 1-star reviews (the idea of cajun must be popeye) the tolstoy: the bayou has presented me with every nutritional crisis: I spread the word about this hidden gem or keep it all for me? in this day and age we have committed ourselves to support our local restaurants, and my head has won over my pampered, only child heart. when they see someone who works as hard as chef brian to fresh, tasty kitchen on the daily, they want to see that they recognized! we hiked before a few weeks first over mundpropaganda to the bayou and have been back since almost every week. this man must have picked voodoo in new orleans because every single dish coming from his kitchen is just some of the best food I ever tasted. every meal we had has the next topped! regarding the Cajun/BBQ, so the BBQ sauce by chef brian perfection in my book and just the best I ever had: savory and not too sweet, with a beautiful north Carolina tang! the brisket is amazing, large smoked taste and delicate the collars are actually vegetarian-friendly, but with good taste and perfectly cooked (not mushy at all.) the maisbrot is true south style and always a great accompaniment to soak all these good juices/ sauces. I'm addicted to his cheeses and always order them as a side, regardless of my most important course-yes, they're that good! I look forward to visiting future where I can explore more on this page of the menu. the texmex is here on another level. the incorporation of his smoked meat into these dishes creates a non-pretentious fusion of bbq and texmex, which would make every abuela jealous! well, the dilemma comes here (and it is a good) this is: stay with what I love on the menu, or try one of the daily specialties? Try the daily specials! also between the specials it can be very hard to choose (only relax and know that whatever they do, it will be a good one.) I feel so special where chef brian radiates: they get his creativity with the fresh ingredients for the day to see! and I love how the spirit this man works! I can not forget to give a scream for scott and cate their needs and do this with a smile(so be beautiful!) the service here is really exemplary –warm, very appealing and funny! make you please and give it a try or risk to miss what the best meal of your life!
Amazing food!!! Great service, employees are friendly and attentive. The Gumbo is delicious . We drive almost 2 hours just to eat here.
Unbelievably delicious! We had seafood gumbo, the chimilado, and brisket poutine. Highly recommend. We will be back
I thought the ribs I had was delicious . They were soft and tender. But I think I could have used a little bit more grits cheese on my plate. Seeing that I went there for lunch and had Rice and Beans. Pictured here . Which seemd to had more of a fluffier creamer batch of grits and cheese.. It also needes alittle more proportion of garlic greenbeanz.. Which also delicious. Overall experience so far staff nice polite food really good tasting seems to be quality. proportion sizes could be better but seem random pending on the time and who's in kitchen. You definitely got to try the gumbo.. Bangn!! Though I have written a review before and I had to shrimp poor boy for lunch but they said could have used a little bit more proportion 4the sides. I don't know what happened to the other reviews I put but I guess they get erased from the make a new review like this one and they had two pictures to this review so what I said in the other reviews. Is about the same but different. I just wish got this could keep do you have other review separate. Overall think certain proportion sizes should be a little bit bigger on some items. As for the shrimp po-boy. if I remember what I wrote correctly they did use large jumbo shrimp but could I guess maybe a couple more but otherwise it was great and fairly priced like I said sides could have been bigger in proportions.. other stuff add just add a tad more. So proportions on certain things could be better and It seems. I guess it depends who is working in the kitchen. Otherwise prices are fair good. Gumbo definitely Bangn. Rice and beans that I had. For lunch Waz the best in portions and for the price. So far.. again Staff friendly. service was pretty good and attentive. SO Come Down Check. Out the BAYOU!
