Visitors can admire a fiberglass statue of 3 Taoist figures that is popular for photos. The food portions are very generous - one serving priced at 75 HKD can easily feed two people, especially considering the self-serve rice and congee. The canteen is spacious to accommodate the restaurant's popularity. The staff at the ordering desk informed me that they do not use milk, eggs, or honey in their dishes. The ingredients of the mock meat they use remain unknown to me (I ordered tofu and vegetables). It is believed that construction on the temple began in the late 1930s, although the accuracy of this information is uncertain. (Updated review as of April 2, 2018)
Updated as of May 25, 2015, this restaurant offers Taoist temple food in a beautiful garden setting with a lotus pond, water features, and lush greenery. Visitors can also admire a glass fiber statue of three Taoist figures, popular for photo opportunities. The food portions are generous, with a 75 HKD dish easily serving two people who can help themselves to rice and congee. The spacious dining area can accommodate the crowd that this place attracts. The staff mentioned that they do not use milk or honey in their dishes. While I cannot vouch for the safety of the mock meat they serve (I opted for tofu and vegetables), I have heard that the restaurant dates back to the late 1930s, though I am unsure of its exact origins. This restaurant offers an interesting food concept with decent taste. The majority of the service is self-serve, with complimentary rice and porridge available. However, there are times when these items are not refilled. Additionally, drinks are served in rice bowls.
All veggie dishes tasted good and well presented. Authentic and no gimmicks. May also walked around the garden after the meal.
I visited this restaurant after buying tickets around 2:30 pm, expecting to have a meal before it closed at 4 pm. The dishes arrived quickly, but the portions were so large that we couldn't finish everything. Unfortunately, when we wanted to pack the leftovers, we couldn't find anyone at the food ordering desk or any restaurant helpers. By 3:05 pm, it was clear that all staff and volunteers had left promptly at 3:00 pm. Dirty dishes were left on tables, and a large pot of congee was left uncovered. It was disappointing to see such negligence, especially in a well-known Taoist temple. The food was decent, but a bit too salty. Overall, the experience was perplexing and wasteful.
