My favorite Vietnamese sandwich spot for many many years. A little gem! Always those kind ladies there, service and quality of the food never changed! The butter hero it’s a heaven,I usually choose that or the fresh veggie sandwich. Vietnamese coffee very delicious if you like a stronger one. They have couple of tables you can seat down and eat there. Usually I just pick up and take it to go..If we are in Brooklyn my family always pick up here something to eat.
Located further down the main stretch of 8th Ave, Ba Xuyen can be easy to overlook. I stopped in for a banh mi and some iced Vietnamese coffee during a late lunch. The grilled pork sandwich I ordered was quite good; the pork was well-seasoned, though a bit on the drier side. I would have loved more pâté, as it would have enhanced the sandwich and made it less dry. The portions are generous, definitely enough for two people to share. It seems the sandwiches are pre-prepared, as they simply heat them up and add the vegetables when you place your order. The Vietnamese iced coffee was a classic American-Vietnamese version made with Café Du Monde coffee. It, too, seemed to be pre-made, as they just added ice. While it wasn’t extraordinary enough to warrant a special trip for another banh mi, I can say it's comparable to other highly-rated Vietnamese sandwiches in Manhattan's Chinatown.
Nothing special about the atmosphere as it is mainly a take out place. The sandwich has always been good. Been eating their sandwiches since they were original on 7th ave and 60th st. More offering of authentic vietnamese street style food than most Banh Mi shop. It is a plus that I can speak the native chinese dialect to the lady boss.
This is a straightforward banh mi spot and probably one of the best in NYC. The banh mi sandwiches are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. My go-to order is usually the banh mi pate thit nguoi (the combination #1). The flavors are good, and the ratio of pickled vegetables to meat is nice, but I wish they added more meat and pate. The cha lua was also sliced a bit smaller than I prefer, but overall, it's still a pretty solid banh mi and quite affordable too. I was excited to see a selection of pre-made Vietnamese dishes like banh beo, goi cuon, and banh it tran. If you're not in the mood for a banh mi, you can also grab a rice box. I finished off my meal with a ca phe sua da, and it was perfect!
