Barrow Street Ale House - New York

I don't want to leave a negative review for Café Bohemia, as I am a jazz fan and am saddened to see it closing permanently. However, since this bar has the same doorman and owner, I feel compelled to share my experience for future customers. If you check their reviews, you'll notice a trend: a large number of complaints about the doorman. It's baffling that they continue to employ someone like that when so many patrons have had similar issues.

The good is that the beer is rather inexpensive and the people that work here are friendly. The OK is that the way the interior is situated is that even on a sunny day the interior is too dark. I understand setting a mood, but IMHO this one is much too dim.

Literally the only redeeming part was the quality of the jazz musicians downstairs. I was standing outside and there was a bouncer for both the Ale House and Cafe Bohemia, so I asked him if he was the bouncer for the jazz show, and he mocked me and threw my ID back at me. A girl came out right after me saying she was just waiting for her friend outside and he mocked her too, rolled his eyes and threw his hands up in the air at us. I get that the job is annoying sometimes, but get a grip dude. Downstairs, the waitress was also annoyed, I got one drink and didn't see her again for two hours. Left $40 on the table and got the hell out of there.

Not true... No weekend happy hour . Open at noon... Still awesome though ?

Fun bar that is a great place to go watch a game. There are lots of TVs and the seating set up makes it easy to feel like you have your own space while still part of the crowd. There is a large selection of beer and spirits. The food is typical pub grub, but the only culinary standout to be is their buffalo sauce which goes well with wings, tots, on the nachos, or fries.
