This gorgeous cafe set in one of the truly beautiful rooms in New York, is positively a tourist trap.
I came here for the first time after recommendations by a friend I met in grad school.
Wow! Some of the best food I’ve eaten in New York!! Absolutely delicious. Had incredible Austrian vibes decorated so beautifully I felt like I was in a cafe in Vienna. Coffee was great, can’t get coffee like that in the US! Dessert was so so good, we wanted to order all of it! Highly highly recommend plus a small browse of the museum afterwards, just for a few hours felt as if I was in Europe.
5 star for the food and ambiance. Bratwurst is juicy, meaty but elegantly so. Attention has been given to the details. Sauerkraut is not a salty and boring one. Even scallion is a nice one and provide nice contrast to an overall slightly oil dish (but again nicely so). Good to pair the dish with a glass of Blaufränkisch from Mittelburgenland. Sachertorte is certainly classic and I would recommend the Sabarskytorte too. Rum adds complexity and layers to the chocolate cake without overpowering. We visited on a Saturday night and there is a live piano performance. Service is adequate but not particularly remarkable.
