The filling was good but the skirt should have been crispy. Instead, it came out rather soggy. We got the mera mera dipping and the kashiwa soba. They were both quality dishes although i wish i got more noodles with my mera mera soba. The mera mera dipping comes out with a sterno underneath which heats it up great throughout the meal. Just be careful as it is not like tsukemen where you dip and eat out of the bowl. It has a strong sesame flavor but mellows as you eat it. I loved that they give you soup to add as I ended up drinking the soup well after i finished my noodles.
This is not a reflection on the quality of the food, but treatment by the staff. I ordered the food online prior to picking up the food. For this review, keep in mind I looked like a delivery guy today in my poncho, helmet and PEV. I know this because a lady from own building mistook me for the delivery guy as well. Onto the review. I received a note my food would be available for pickup at 12:16. I got there at 12:16 on the dot. My food was not ready, and that 's ok. I grew up in the restaurant industry so I know how it can be. They told me five more minutes and I waited. 10 minutes, past, 5 more minutes 20 minutes past. 2 more minutes 30 minutes past, 2 more minutes It wasn 't till I showed them my email that said the food would be ready at 12:16 and that I am the actual customer that they started cooking the food. I indicate all of this, because it gives me the impression they don 't really respect the time of the delivery workers who helped keep the mom and pops alive during the pandemic. That 's not cool, every minute they wait on food that is not ready at a proper time is money out of their pockets. Like anyone else reading, they 're just trying to make a living.I hope other restaurants aren 't like this. Attached is a photo of my rain gear for reference.
Mera Mera Dip Soba was rich, salty, spicy, and creamy. Delicious pairing with fresh soba noodle. Would recommend adding extra veg and pickled if available. Certainly a unique gem in the midst of New York's endless food scene. Tasty and fun experience I'd be happy to enjoy each visit to NY. Cash only! Returned to try the clear broth and the warm koma soba didn't disappoint. It was deliciously refreshing on a warm day. The hints of yuzu are perfection and the dish was quintessentially simple yet complex flavored Japanese style
So friggin good! I'm Japanese and I felt like I was taken back to Tokyo to an authentic sobaya-san. Everything was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. It's very affordable and all their apps are shareable. If you're looking for a good Japanese noodle place, this is it! The only thing is, they are cash only so make sure you have some on you. If not, that's okay too they have an ATM inside.
Limited seating space, so try to come with a group no bigger than 4-5, perfect for a 2 guest party. Also, very important for my credit card users like myself: *Cash Only* and another plus, they have vegan options! For our entrees we ordered the Warm Mera Mera Soba and the Warm Japanese Styled Curry (Chicken). Let me start with the soba noodles themselves because they were made beautifully. I tasted the noodles alone and I was blown away by how perfectly they were cooked. The Mera Mera broth was delicious and you immediately taste the kick of spice and sesame. The Japanese Curry broth was also very yummy, packed full of flavor. The broths alone are a bit salty, but dipping them with the noodles, the combo was harmonious. The broth becomes a paste like texture near the end, so they offer you boiling water to add to thin out the broth. For dessert we got the green tea affogato. It was a cute treat consisting of green tea ice cream, red bean paste, mochi, condensed milk, corn flakes, and matcha espresso. How can you ever go wrong with green tea ice cream, red bean paste, and condensed milk? The meal ended with the server giving us a hot cup of green tea, and it was just what I needed to digest everything down. I absolutely loved everything I had, and you will most certainly see me back for the summer to taste their cold soba noodle and appetizers.
