The workers were quick and it was delicious! We saw other times how busy they get but were lucky with a short line.
How often do you see a street food vendor who uses 4 carts and takes up two corners? Their food is definitely better than other chicken over rice plates I have tried around NYC. For me, the difference lies in their hot sauce, they add a few slices of pita bread and that their salad has green bell peppers. Service can be speedy.. but, it all depends on who is in front of you. Ambiance?... it 's the streets, man! lol!
The OG Halal Guys in NY tastes waaay better than any franchise location I've had in CA. Not only are portions more generous, but the meats are so much tastier! Combo platter: Simple. Hearty. Chef's kiss. Well seasoned chicken and beef. Fragrant rice. Crisp lettuce. Chopped tomatoes. Fluffy pita bread. The white sauce is so creamy and dangerously addicting! The red sauce gives yummy punches of heat Add with caution. They've reliably served food come rain or shine. My visits have spanned many years apart, but the cart always satiates my hunger with the utmost satisfaction. Service is speedy! Although, I don't mind long wait times, because I get to enjoy the aromatic steam rolling off the mountains of meat. The chaotic environment from cars honking, pedestrians yelling, or pigeons trying to sneak a snack attack from my platter becomes quite negligible once I take my first bite :
I've lived in the Middle East and done a lot of traveling s I like to say I'm pretty well versed in this type of food. I was really happy to see a halal option while we were touring. The line was long but we wanted to give it a try. I thought the man taking the orders wasn't very polite. The food was decent and an affordable option compared to other restaurants around. However, I didn't think it was that good as it's hyped up to be. It was just okay and I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again.
Finally was able to visit and try the original The Halal Guys and it did not disappoint. You won't miss the cart and you will see a long steady line all day but the guys that work here got it down as it moves fairly quickly. Menu is pretty simple. Cash only so be prepared. We ordered chicken platter and get extra white sauce, you'll thank me later. We also got gyro beef sandwich but I personally like the platter better. If you don't eat spicy the red sauce might be too much for you so try at your own risk. We enjoyed our food somewhere near by the street to make sure we tried it hot and fresh.
