Mel's Burger - New York

I just finished my Hot Mess burger and I have to say, it was the best burger I've ever had. I ordered it medium, and it arrived slightly rarer than that, but it was just how I like it. The house beer isn't anything extraordinary, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

It's unfortunate, but it seems they selectively choose who to serve. I went in with my daughters, feeling very hungry and hot. I noticed the sign indicating bar service at the table, so I casually approached the bar to place an order. The waitress told me she would come to our table shortly. I sat down and waited. After a while, she brought us some water (not a big deal), but then she walked away without taking our order. Again, not a huge issue. However, I saw her take the orders of about ten college guys at the bar afterward. I tried to get her attention because, as any parent knows, getting your order in right away is crucial for a smooth restaurant experience. Another waitress then approached and mentioned that it was bar service only. At that point, I was quite frustrated and explained that I had gone to place my order, and the first waitress had asked me to sit down. She replied dismissively, "Whatever, miss, I'll take your order." That's when I realized they really didn’t want to serve us at all. So we decided to leave, with a hungry 4-year-old and 7-year-old in tow. It seems they cater more to college students than families, which is disappointing because I know they serve good food.

I had a great experience at this restaurant, enjoying both lunch and dinner. The burgers are cooked just right, loaded with fresh ingredients, and incredibly flavorful. While they might not be the absolute best burgers I've ever had, they are definitely very good. The fries are delightful, especially when paired with their special fry sauce. Each fry is perfectly cooked, and I’ve tried all their varieties; the classic fries are my personal favorite, though they’re all tasty. The boneless chicken wings are excellent, possibly my favorite dish there. The mac and cheese balls are decent, but I found them lacking a bit in cheesiness. The service is outstanding; the staff is fantastic. If you're in the area, this is one of my favorite places to eat!

The food was tasty and the atmosphere was nice and casual. The burgers were great, and I really liked the Trashed wings. Since I was with a large group, we had a server, but typically you order at the bar and find your own seat, which is fine. I would definitely go back!

I had a wonderful experience at a retirement party last night. The food and drinks were delicious, and the staff were excellent. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting.
