Had a casual dinner at Panca, a Peruvian restaurant that I had bookmarked ages ago but finally had a chance to step foot in. Nice little jewel in the West Village. Love the atmosphere here. First time having Peruvian food and truly enjoyed the dishes offered here. For appetizers, we had ceviche mixto and the corn empanada For entree, the chaufa with chicken, rotisserie chicken and a side of yucca fries! Coming back again is a MUST!
TLDR: Good vibes but mediocre food Fun place for a Friday night get together but the empanadas were a bit bland and the ceviche was overpowered with a sweet potato puree.
A good effort, but falls a bit flat. The pisco sours here use way too much egg compared to other ones I've had (including actually in Peru. As the egg dissolves it does get better. Ceviche and lomo saltado were both just ok. Decent, but nothing to rave about given its a Peruvian restaurant. Surprisingly the best dish was the salmon. Perfectly crispy and the green rice it came with was phenomenal! Overall if you are in the neighborhood it's worth trying once but likely won't be back
I've been to Panca back when it was called Aji Pancas. I fell in love with their food from the start! Their cocktails were always delicious too. I especially enjoyed their service and the atmosphere. I can confidently say nothing has changed, food is just as great and the place is still a vibe! If you're looking for delicious Peruvian cuisine you will not be disappointed!
