Love this place; happy hour the bomb Reminds me of my time living in Japan; Friendly staff and fast service!
As for the yakitori, the chicken breast was very dry, and the thigh pieces were slightly dry as well, with an unpleasant tar-like flavor. The meatball had a large piece of bone in it, and the taste was quite off-putting. At the time of our visit, I had a reservation at Torishin just a week later, and the experience made me consider canceling it, as the yakitori had left a bad impression. However, I ended up going to Torishin, and it was fantastic. Overall, I can only give this place 2 stars; I didn’t enjoy it at all.
I also felt that our server only recommended basic menu items; the dish they suggested was rather bland. The authenticity that once defined this place seems to have been lost to a hipster aesthetic. Now, there's a mini-mass machine, old Pachinko machines, a Shinola player, loud music, and a crowd of tourists—although they are not the worst kind. The strangest thing was that the hand dryers blow air directly onto the toilet paper, which just ended up making it wet. I miss the mix of Japanese patrons, businessmen, and drinkers that used to populate the place, as well as the long lines that came with it. It’s understandable now, though—it doesn’t really feel worth the wait anymore.
I ordered the meal of the day, so perhaps my appetite affected my experience. The food was just average, although the portions were quite large. The prices were reasonable. As others have noted, the flow work is definitely worth a visit—it's impressive to see.
