I have been a big fan of Uogashi since I moved to the East Village. The quality and prices are still fantastic. They offer the best sushi dinner set and also serve omakase.
We tried the omakase at this restaurant and chose to sit at the bar. The sushi chef was very friendly and served us generous portions of sushi. The fish is imported from Japan, which added to the authenticity of the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend this place.
My partner and I came to the restaurant tonight for a special date night. We were looking forward to trying the omakase at the bar. After ordering and getting a bottle of wine, our first course arrived: an oyster. As I was about to eat it, I noticed a small worm-like bug in the bowl. We called the manager over, who quickly removed the dish without apologizing. He then returned with the next course, still without an apology. We felt uneasy about eating raw food that might have bugs in it. Only after we expressed our discomfort did the manager apologize and try to brush off the bug incident. When I pointed out that the bug was inside the oyster, not on the outside, he made it clear that nothing would be done to reassure us or compensate us for the unpleasant experience. We will not be returning after such a disgusting ordeal and rude service.
Have wanted to dine here for a long time but overall was disappointed. Food was just okay (sake was great).... Nothing stood out, just meh. Music was too low and lights too bright. I wasn't a big fan of the vibe which means a lot to me when I dine out. The server was nice, though. I had the seaweed salad that I didn't like and she took it right the bill without asking.
